And yes, I know this was not overbooking, it was a need to move a flight crew. Same principles apply, only moreso.
I must be one of the few who haven’t had any problems with UA. Delays and cancellations are caused by global warming anyway and I still drive an SUV so it is my fault really.
What to expect if you do not....... see video clip. I think it is a training video for United personnel.....

In the 70’s I was on a flight that overbooked by four seats.
The head stewardess offered an alternate flight four hours later, no takers. She offered alternate flight plus paid dinner, two college age guys took it. She offered alternate flight plus dinner plus overnight accommodations, husband wife and baby took it. problem solved
With an expiration date attached!
Or throw a tantrum like a two-year old and hope dumb airport cops act stupidly and you can make millions!
I think UAL needs to rethink their business model, along with how the hell they’re going to mitigate this PR disaster.
They need to raise these comp rates, I’d say 5x what they offer.
You sure like that word 'tantrum', you use it in every post.
Only tantrum is the United gate manager who decided screw the law, I'm in charge here and you'll do what I say.
There u go. A perfect example.
Yep, except these days the pay off can go to some obscure bureaucrat deep in the bowels of Ye Olde Fed Agencie somewhere. Bureaucrats write the regs. The system lets companies bypass politicians altogether in most instances, thereby reducing risk of the graft becoming public.
This was a problem of his own making. I have no pity for this putz. It wasn’t a police situation until he made it one. If someone insisted that I move from their private property (a hotel, a restaurant, an airplane) I would get out. No need for police to remove me from the premises. He caused the injuries himself imo. He could have left politely without breaking a sweat. He has no rights even if he paid for the ticket. He’s an ass for resisting. And all those fools who cried crocodile tears about his situation could have easily surrendered their seats for his convenience. This is much ado about nothing. Now the vultures have landed and it’s a 24/7 news piece. What about the persecuted church in Egypt? That was hardly a blip on the news cycle.
“Air lines are in the business to make money, and not serving customers.”
Businesses are in business to make money by serving customers enough to motivate them to do business with the company.
Businesses aren’t in the business to hire people either.
He threw a tantrum.
That’s why.
See post 32.
That, sir, was downright funny.
If they gave actual cash compensation, I could see some enterprising person turning it into a business. Perhaps they would create an app that deliberately pushes passengers into "bump situations," with the express purpose of pocketing some cash. Maybe they would direct this toward seniors, unemployed, and others with flexible schedules. Then when bumped, the traveler gets a payoff for their inconvenience, and the app takes a percentage of the payoff.
Yeah.
What is also not stated is that the Airline is required by the DOT to provide “bumped” passengers a written copy of their rights.
I experienced a “bump” recently and failed to get that copy, my bad for not knowing that right. It would have changed things.
It wasn't a police situation until United made it one. The manager decided I'm not running casino and you'll do what I say.
No need for police to remove me from the premises. He caused the injuries himself imo.
There is a procedure that the airport police are trained to follow, they chose to ignore it and are now all under suspension.
He has no rights even if he paid for the ticket. Hes an ass for resisting.
Apparently you're a power bottom that loves to be ordered around regardless of the law.
We have a name for companies that beat up people and take their money.
Are you suggesting that I seek out the people that invest in the company that I work for, and beat them up and take their money? Because this is what is going to happen to people who have shares in UAL. They’re going to get hosed.
