Interesting story - I recently read the book, The Generals, by Thomas E Ricks; it’s a fascinating look at leadership, both good and bad, from WWI to present day (up until when the book was written in 2012). McMaster and Matthis.
McMaster literally wrote the book on what when wrong in Vietnam, and Matthis is known to lead from out in front.
When I see photos of the President in the Situation Room with his advisers, Matthis and McMaster are usually present, and I feel very reassured that neither will let the US get bogged down in an extended conflict or make rash decisions.
