Dodge unveils one-seat 840-horsepower muscle car

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is not a car for normal people. For starters, it comes standard with only one seat. Because passenger seats, and passengers, weigh too much and would slow it down. Your friends aren't worth that.

Then there's the engine. The Demon's 840-horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged V8 is the most powerful V8 engine ever put into a regular production car. That makes the Demon the most powerful factory-produced muscle car... ever.

The Demon has already recorded the fastest quarter-mile run by a factory production car ever, as officially certified by the National Hot Rod Association. Starting from a dead stop, a Demon made the drag strip run in just 9.65 seconds.

It also has the fastest zero to 60 time for any production car, according to Dodge, at 2.3 seconds. And the fastest zero to 30 time at 1.3 seconds. All of this leads to it having the most rib-crushing acceleration G-force of any production car. Helping that are the huge buckets of air the engine can suck in through the largest functional hood scoop made for any production car.

Motor Tend magazine has said that the record quickest zero-to-60 run by a factory production car, in its testing, had been by the Tesla Model S P100D. In the hands of Motor Trend test drivers, the Tesla accelerated to 60 miles an hour in 2.28 seconds. (There are various methods for measuring zero to 60 acceleration that can yield different results.)

The Demon is also the first production car able to accelerate so hard it can lift its front wheels off the pavement, a feat that has been certified by the Guinness Book of World Records. The front wheel can stay up in the air for almost three feet.

“Wonder if Hennessey Performance will get one to go against their The Exorcist Camaro?”

Wait till Hennessey mods the Demo!

I don’t know about the Demon, but here are the numbers for the 650 Hp Corvette Z06 from two years ago:

The top-of-the-line 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 performance coupe with an eight-speed automatic transmission delivers 13 mpg in city driving and 23 mpg on the highway, according to newly released fuel economy numbers by the EPA.

Consumers have been waiting for these numbers, since this is the first Corvette Z06 to offer a supercharged engine. GM says the 2015 Corvette Z06 is the most powerful production car ever from General Motors and one of the most powerful production cars available in the U.S.

The Corvette Z06 is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that churns out 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

That doesn’t surprise me. Many years ago (I mean MANY), my wife and I were vacationing in Switzerland and we drove up a winding road to get to the tunnel through the Alps. We saw a sports car that had crashed not long before we arrived and it was broken clean in two. There wasn’t much left to indicate it was an automobile...I figure the driver was probably squashed like those on the Autobahn.

The article says that Chrysler has actually done a great job making this thing tractable on the street. Pretty hard to believe. But that’s their claim.

Nope. Comes with driver’s seat only and no stereo / radio / sound system. But they’ll put those in for an extra fee. Might be hard to hear the sound system, though.

Hot dog!

Heck, why not just drive to the Amazon distribution center. There is probably one nearby... in the next state over... a five minute trip, there and back.

Last year when this car had only 707Hp. It came in third when compared with the Camaro (#1) and the Ford Mustang (#2). All this car has is horsepower. The drive train is an antique, so it doesn’t go around corners very well. Drag Racing is fun! Unfortunately, everyday driving isn’t drag racing!

Proudly Made in the USA, you won’t see snowflakes drooling over this, i fully expect them to go after full bore more so than they did to the Hummer H2.

How can you possibly hate such an outrageous machine?

I guess only latent socialists can. Its too much for just one person! Wahh wahh!

This is a dragster.

And it's worth noting that the NHRA has banned the new Demon. No roll cage.

I got 13mpg at 85mph in my 70 Dodge Charger 383 Magnum. I will guess the mileage on this rig will be much better.

It could make for an investment vehicle, if kept like new, with no mileage it could double or triple in value in 10 to 15 years.
