It seems clear to me...Spicer was trying to point out that Assad,unlike Hitler,used gas in a *combat* scenario.He worded his comment poorly (and who hasn't done *that* on occasion?) and now the Trump Derangement Crowd is attacking.
My first words to the person who said that to me.
He did not chemically attack the enemy, nor the German people. He killed the people that were the object of his derangement.

I agree “he worded his comment poorly”. But if you
think about it there is almost no way to word it properly
to that crowd even though your explanation was pretty
damn good in my book. Those disgusting liberal bastards
will twist and conflate everything they can get away
