Brazil’s New Problem With Blackness
Foreign Policy ^ | April,5, 2017 | Cleuci de Oliveira

...Late last year Fernando received news he had dreaded for months: he and 23 of his classmates had been kicked out of college. The headline run by weekly magazine CartaCapital — “White Students Expelled from University for Defrauding Affirmative Action System”.

But the headline clashes with how Fernando sees himself. He identifies as "pardo", or brown: a mixed-race person with black ancestry.

For Brazil’s black activists, however, the breach of the country’s unofficial color-blindness has also been accompanied by suspicion over race fraud: people taking advantage of affirmative action policies never meant for them in the first place.

“These spots are for people who are phenotypically black,” [...]a member of the student activist group Setorial Negro, told me. “It’s not for people with black grandmothers.”

In 2014, the federal government approved a law that set aside 20 percent of public sector jobs to people of color. In Aug. 2016, [...] the government ordered all departments to install verification committees. But it failed to provide the agencies with any guidance.

The Department of Education in Para, Brazil’s blackest state, attempted to fulfill the decree with a checklist. Among the criteria to be scored: Is the job candidate’s nose short, wide and flat? How thick are their lips? Are their gums sufficiently purple? What about their lower jaw? Does it protrude forward? Candidates were to be awarded points per item, like “hair type” and “skull shape.”

But black activists say such measures are unavoidable. “A person who does not look phenotypically black is not the one getting killed by police every 23 minutes,” said Santos, the law student and Coletivo Negrada member.

The contortions are laughable. Talk about incongruent? 'Color-blindness' & race fraud. Of course we jump through the same hoops in this nation.

Affirmative action in the private sector is a myth and never intended by our founders. Affirmative action to one is coercion to another. Socialism/communism comes to mind.

The reality is that many factors affect who we associate with and who we hire. Some businesses prefer to hire family members and relatives. There are other forms of nepotism in our society like Jews elevating other Jews or Masons other Masons or Baptists other Baptists.

In private business, are owners obligated to be objective, color-blind etc? Does the owner of a company have the right to hire his son or daughter over a better qualified candidate? Does the owner of a company have the right to hire people who he "likes" and for no other reason?

Conversely, when it comes to "government jobs", individuals should be hired based qualifications alone. I.e., who best meets the job requirements.

I guess the Somalian blacks haven't been sold as slaves to America because Somalia is in the Africa's eastern coast, which hasn't been a possible place to visit by European ships.

So DBs aren't entitled for any kind of reparations.

The regent, Princess Isabel, issued a decree abolishing slavery on 13 May 1888. This ended the African slave trade. Princess Isabella’s decree, known as the Golden Law, abolishing slavery and was the last major act promulgated by Brazil’s royal family. Brazil, which was the world’s largest slaveholding state, was the last Western Hemisphere country to abolish slavery.

I dont understand why Brazil is not a wealthy country. The left keeps barking that America’s wealth was created on the backs of African slaves. If slavery created lasting wealth then Africa and Brazil should have the highest standards of living in the world.

Well, there's a possible answer- the Brazilian Whites proved themselves poor masters. They didn't have good whips or something.

When the Government classifies a group of people as incompetent and incapable of thriving in modern civilization on their own, then every two-bit hack is going to jump on that gravy train. What did the gimme-dats think was going to happen?

>>ABs, the affirmative action party is now over. If you snoozed, you lose.

You got that right. They got replaced by new imports, as well as Hispanics and gays.

An interesting item is that the Christian DBs from west Africa come here ready to work, raise good kids, and become an American. Only the Muslim DBs arrive ready for welfare and mayhem.

pretty soon, if not already, there will be purist blacks, shunning those nearly so's.

That will be funny, when some white guy can use 23andme to prove that he’s blacker than 50% of American blacks and then demands his slice of the handout pie.
