Nikki Haley: “Regime Change Is Something That We Think Is Going To Happen” In Syria

The drums of war are continuing to beat with UN Ambassador Nikki Haley coming out and basically saying the Trump administration is against Syrian president Assad staying in power.

Haley said, “regime change is something that we think is going to happen.”

“There’s not any sort of option where a political solution is going to happen with Assad at the head of the regime,” Haley said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” set to air Sunday.

“If you look at his actions, if you look at the situation, it’s going to be hard to see a government that’s peaceful and stable with Assad,” she added.

“There’s multiple priorities. Getting Assad out is not the only priority,” Haley said of the U.S. strategy.

“What we’re trying to do is, obviously, defeat ISIS,” she continued.

“Secondly, we don’t see a peaceful Syria with Assad in there. Thirdly, get the Iranian influence out. And then finally, move toward a political solution, because at the end of this is a complicated situation.”

Haley’s comments are dangerously close to projecting that America will force regime change in Syria.

Assad is soft on ISIS. We need a brutal dictator that will eliminate them fast.

Where is Saddam when you need him? He was a Stalin like figure not tied to Sunni or Shitte. Mideast was a better place with good old fashion dictators.

“Time for Nikki to hold her tongue”

She is doing her job. Tell them you are going after Syria then bomb N.Korea.

Not our problem. Not our business.

Do these morons drum beating for "regime change" have the ability to learn from recent history? Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan. What betting person would expect that "regime change" in Syria would bring about something positive? The only likely change is that someone more rabid and unhinged will take power. Take it to the bank.

I agree with you. Assad is a known entity. With him gone, the new boss would be same as the old boss or worse.

Saddam stopped playing ball for us and started playing ball against us so he had to go bye bye.

Way back when I worked at USIU during grad school, there were a number of students from the ME whose parents had plenty of petrodollars. They had sent their kids to school in London, so they absorbed western culture.

That’s the kind of guy you want running the place. IMO, ousting dictators is a job for the CIA. They can go in and take him out and replace him with a western friendly benevolent dictator. The idea of democracy in the ME is madness.

All of that said, it’s still not our circus and not our monkeys.

It's Kim's move.

There are six nations involved in the region with N Korean negotiations. They have a say.

And China needs to cooperate....TOTAL EMBARGO.

This opinion is subject to change when I am fully awake.

Assad went to grad school in the UK and worked there for many years. He also got his stockpile of nerve agents from a UK company. Hmm.

You forget....Saddam cheered the takedown of the Towers.

Saddam gassed the Kurds.

Saddam paid Palestinian families to strap on bombs and go to Israel. I think the going was $25,000.

Like I said, it would have to be someone western friendly.

I’ve no doubt the CIA already has contacts like that.

Assad may not be soft on them, exactly, but he has long been informed, including by other ME states, that he is remaining in power only until ISIS is defeated - so he has little incentive to really defeat them. And he honestly is not loved in Syria itself, from what one has seen over the years, so his presence probably is an obstacle to progress.

I didn’t forget anything. Like I said, he stopped playing ball for us and started playing ball against us. I think the final straw was when he decided to trade his oil for euros.

Very likely. The problem is there are no GOOD GUYS in this fight.
There will be fighting here 10 years from now regardless of Assad being gone

Because removing secular dictators in the Middle East has worked out so well for us in the past.
