So great that so many FReepers are so eager to go to war. /s

“Oh, we’ll kick Russian butt!” I note that many of the warmongers do NOT have family serving, because in any war with Russia—even just a “conventional” one—we will lose American lives.

How in the world does destruction of Assad help the USA? Where did Trump get authority to declare war without Congress? I thought Americans were tired of war! Well, it’s probably just Americans who have blood in the game...

“Oh, we’ll kick Russian butt!”

That's what Napoleon and Hitler thought.

Assad is just a tool of the Russians and Iranians.

Last week, the Trump administration made a very public reversal in US policy announcing that US was open to Assad remaining in power pending negotiations.

This week, Russia and Assad responded with another gas attack, which can only be seen as a slap in the face.

The missile attack is our response, as well as putting together a coalition to work for Assad's removal.

Prior to this I would have supported holding our nose and working with the Russians and Assad as long as the Iranians and Hezbollah are shut out of Syria. I would still support such a deal now on condition that Russia remove Assad.

But right now Russia and Assad have acted as though Obama were still in office and the US can be treated with contempt. Trump has just reminded them that that is no longer the case.

I care about military lives. Donald Trump showed he cared when the first US Combat casualty of his administration was returned home. Trump went to the place the body was being flown into.

But Syria borders Israel. If Syria were to drop some Sarin gas on Israel to sway Arab opinion (like SCUD attacks on Israel by Iraq), then Israel might respond by using a hydrogen bomb on Syria.

That would be very messy.

I would make any confrontation with Russia over Syria conditional: only if the US could get the support of the Urkaine as well as many other nations as possible (NATO, including Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq).

Also the UN should be involved in getting the Sarin gas removed.

I would hope Russia would not start a war, and I would not want the US to start a war.

But there are problems with Syria having Sarin gas as well as Iran having nuclear weapons.

We have a problem with North Korea because they are developing rockets to launch their nuclear weapons with.
