Democratic assemblywoman Deborah Glick of the New York State Assembly has introduced legislation that would fine people who do not vote, and has been promptly criticized on the constitutionality of the measure.

Glick's legislation proposes a $10 fine for those who fail to vote without providing a "valid excuse," but she does not specify what a valid excuse would be, the New York Daily News reports.

I doubt this is constitutional. A right to vote also means a right not to vote.

I’ve been predicting this for some time.

Forced big turnouts will almost certainly result in a Democrat win. I expect that in the future you’ll see requirements that you must provide proof of having voted in order to apply for welfare, food stamps or student loans.

Does this witch know that you would have to have voter ID and a good vote count to do this.

Won’t happen.

In the off-year Pennsylvania judicial elections, voters in Philadelphia were actually enrolled in a lottery to win a $10,000 prize!

They got away with it because no Federal offices were on that ballot.

Two of my coworkers have Glick bumper stickers in New Jersey; they moved from Manhattan. The woman has a lot of followers, and that is something that NY Republicans and conservatives haven’t reckoned with yet.

Is this like a reverse poll tax?

Just what we need. Mandatory votes from people who don't care enough to study the candidates and issues, and vote only because they're forced to do so.

on welfare for not working when the are able; for living in government subsidized housing; and not cleaning their own neighborhood; for being on the government payroll through working for a politically connected NGO; for being politicians who propose stupid laws; and last BUT LEAST for be sMucky Schumer..........

Is this like a reverse poll tax?

John Roberts would say yes, and therefore it's Constitutional.

Pretty funny, since it was New York that abstained from the vote for Independence.

By not voting people are voting for none of the above.

The next step will be to punish anyone who does not vote for the Democrat.

The Dems will never do this. It means verifying by ID & so no more voter fraud. We visited Peru on a cruise last year. Our tour guide on an excursion told us their system: Peru requires every person aged 18 to 65 to vote (you can still vote after 65, but it’s optional). If a citizen fails to vote they are fined (based on ability to pay) & it can also lead to other repercussions (like being unable to get a loan) until your record is ‘cleared’ by the government. But every citizen is issued a voter ID & you get a little decal put on your ID showing that you voted – so no voter fraud.

Why do ALL the women that want to advance these crazy laws, all look like they should be sniffing luggage at JFK?
