I believe the Sales Tax is ON TOP of the other Taxes.
If the Gasoline costs $2.00 a Gallon, the Sales Tax where I live would be about $.16 a Gallon.
Add the Federal and State Gas Taxes that inflate the cost to $2.70 a Gallon and the additional Sales Tax would be about $.20 a Gallon.
Every penny counts.
The State of CA is making more of a profit on Gasoline than the Companies who produce it.

Beverage container deposits (CRV) are taxed but that tax is not refunded upon recycling.

I wonder how many specific types of taxes there are in California? It would be interesting to see an audit of all the taxes, and, to see if the money collected is used for the intended purposes of the taxes.

Adding to his impressive CV in anticipation of a Presidential run.I,personally, would say that it's his turn and he will get the Rat nomination.

"Elections have consequences. the Hispanics, Asians and
white snowflakes gave the Rat party a super majority last Nov. and
they arent going to let it go to waste. A $2 a pack
new cigarette tax just went into effect last week as well." The liberals voted in their precious RAT party.
I hope the Democrat majority in Sacramento takes full
full advantage of the power their liberal/leftist voters
stupidly gave them and makes them suffer! And I mean really suffer.
I feel sorry for the Californians who didn't vote for this tyranny.
I hope they make it through all of the nonsense.

I guess there’s places that are the equivalent of Staten Island?
Close to the big city but still cheap enough to live?
Or no?

Your retired CHiP officer is probably a wealthy man, at a very young age.
It's amusing how some few of the CA public sector locusts bail from the poison state after retirement and live large in other, cheaper states.

40.00 tax per gallon.
To save the planet, and feed starving CA administrators and public sector leeches.

Divide the State - not likely. Risk the 55 Electoral Votes for a Democrat President? Definitely not likely.

That's going to head straight to the general fund. Buy an E-ticket for your roads citizens.

Democrats need more and more money to buy votes. They see the curtain coming down on the flow of illegal Democrats who will be sneaking into our country.

Although promised, this has nothing, zero, zip, nada with maintaining the roads. This leftist state has big public pensions to pay and rapidly growing numbers of illegal aliens to support.

Yeah. Think of all the money they make from merchandising alone ;-)

The state lottery money was going to be spent on the schools. As I understand it the lottery money does go to the schools. The big switcheroo is then that exact amount of money is deducted from the school budget and blown on PC crap by the big spending leftists.
To: Extremely Extreme Extremist
They just did that with cigarettes. $2 tax more on a pack of cigarettes. For the children. Lol
