BEIRUT (AP) — The United States fired cruise missiles into central Syria early Friday morning, striking an Assad government-controlled air base where U.S. officials say the Syrian military launched a deadly chemical attack that killed dozens of civilians earlier this week. Syrian state TV called the attack an "aggression" that lead to "losses."

About 60 U.S. Tomahawk missiles hit the Shayrat air base, southeast of Homs, a small installation with two runways, where aircraft often take off to bomb targets in northern and central Syria. The U.S. missiles hit at 3:45 a.m. Friday morning and targeted the base's airstrips, hangars, control tower and ammunition areas, U.S. officials said.

And who would have thought that some Free Republic posters would support Assad and the use of chemical weapons on babies? You are right. Bizarro world!

Russia has no control over Assad and Assad has no control over most of his generals. Using chemical weapons was dumb. Dumb people in Syria don’t live long.

Agreed. I'm reminded of a parable told to me by a Druze Engineer when I first began working in Saudi Arabia (82). We were having a particularly trying day amongst the natives when in exasperation I told him I just don't get it. Everything was irrational and contrary to the interest of everyone.

He then told me the story of The Scorpion and the Frog. The only difference was the ending.

When the frog asks the scorpion why, the scorpion replies that it is the middle east.

There is no way we can bring western rationalism to the goings on in the middle east. It could have been a false flag operation or Assad ordered. We will not know and I would not be surprised by either.

There is something I have been wondering. It is possible the Russians will feign outrage over the attack while silently consolidating control over the Syrian air force. The Russian base was not attacked and I just don't know how many Syrian airbases are left.

The Russians may have been a beneficiary in a way. I don't want to push that yet with the entire ludicrous Russian scandal BS.

Those who don’t get behind Trump had better stay quiet. Those who don’t do either should be subject to arrest for sedition.

“Russia _ucked up by allowing the usage of chemical agents.”
Yes they did- or at the least were negligent.

That’s why they had to cooperate with us.
Russia provides air defense for Assad, only they didn’t tonight!>>> why does a guy who is finally winning a civil war with possibly two major super powers on your side, send such a sarin gas bomb on civilians? for which there is no evidence.

I am not convinced the Syrian government had anything to do with it. They were winning big-time. Why take the risk of getting the USA involved? For 80 people they could have easily taken out with conventional weapons?

I am not buying into the Syrians using chemical weapons.

50 Tomahawks at $1,559,000 each, at least it was a really futile and stupid gesture.

Really. Everyone is throwing numbers around. I posted a link to a navy website on another thread. The price is $569,000.

We are at War when War has been declared...and that means Congressional involvement.

Did we declare war against Libya?

One thing I can prove: tonight MSNBC, McCain, Hillary, Bill Krystol, neocons like Mattis and McMaster, and the Sunni rebels are all thrilled about this.

Maybe they will be his new support base.>>> maybe but for this not me. dumb.

Ahhh... so who exactly is the enemy? Is it Assad who, while a dictator, does protect and defend Christian and other religious minorities in Syria? Or is it the Islamist “rebels” who Obama, Hillary and McCain have armed & abetted? These Islamists were the ones cheering Trump’s bombings tonight.

Do you believe we owe absolute obedience to our leader...whether he’s right or wrong?

I’m sure you have read the classified material that prompted these actions. You should have become the President or the person in charge tonight. With all the fake news going around, when the main stream media scream and disapproved of this then it means it was based on real intelligence not fake news.

And the Democrat Party are ecstatic. As is ISIS. The Christians and Jews are nervous, but who cares about them?

Take a look yourself. Google Earth, good view, because there is probably five times the targets than missiles fired.

Maybe there will be some damage photos posted. Buildings should be gone though.

“there is zero proof that there was any chemicals dropped by Syrian army planes.”

If ISIS is running around Syria using chemicals weapons then Assad and the Russians have failed miserably and deserve to get Tomahawked.

Why the hell haven’t they wiped out ISIS from Syria yet? Tomahawks falling on their head are a good incentive to do it fast.

Suicide By Trump

This seems to have been written before the attacks but other than an apparently wrong guess about what Trump would do, I think the reasoning is better than that of anyone else out there, excepting maybe Trump. Trump knows.

Ahh...Momma said that assumption is the mother of all f@ckups. Maybe your Momma should have taught you that also. I’m certainly not convinced that Assad committed any gas attack. Why the hell would he when things are going so well for him lately?

But feel free to continue mindlessly believing everything you’re told.

Hillary Clinton and her boss Obama are two of the biggest reasons Syria and the mid-east are in such a mess today.
