I think the “not embracing Islam” thing is what really got Obama and his Muslim White House worked up. Just as I think that it was Pope Benedict’s Regensburg Address, in which he criticized Islam, that got the left in the Catholic Church to decide that he had to go and start putting into motion their plans to get him out.

IMHO (etcetc) Putin’s aim is not to have more and more control over the world but to have enough control so that other nations/entities such as NATO and the EU, and individuals such as Soros and his lackeys, cannot harm or infringe on Russia’s domain. More of a strong position of defense, rather than offense.
