Mark Meadows says Freedom Caucus will go along with AHCA if it kills community rating and EHB regs

[Full title] MEADOWS: The Obamacare mandates, there are 12 of them. Mark Meadows says Freedom Caucus will go along with AHCA if it kills community rating and EHB regulations

In the debate over repealing and replacing Obamacare, Republican leadership complains that conservatives have been moving the goal post. And Mark Meadows says they're right.

"Well we have," the Freedom Caucus chairman admits with a sigh during a sit-down interview with the Washington Examiner. "We've moved it much closer. All they have to do is kick a little chip shot through the goal posts...."

This comes after weeks of intense negotiation with leadership and the White House on the best way to overhaul Obamacare. But Meadows says his group of three dozen conservatives aren't asking for one thing before demanding another. Instead, he insists that the Freedom Caucus is conceding.

The group has abandoned their demand for a clean repeal. They're not asking Speaker Ryan to clear the slate and start over. Just eliminating the Obamacare mandates for coverage of Essential Health Benefits and the price controls known as "Community Rating," Meadows said "would bring the vast majority of the Freedom Caucus to a yes."

Before it went down in flames, the American Health Care Act only eliminated two of Obamacare's 12 mandates, specifically the individual and employer mandates. If Ryan can kick two more mandates, then he can get the win.

That can't be that hard Meadows said, considering Republicans campaigned on getting rid of Obamacare completely. "In the end," he said, "the request is pretty simple, just two more of the 12 Obamacare mandates."

I disagree.
Repeal, postdated to July first or December first would have no political consequences and would allow for multiple competing well thought out replacement options, rather than the totally ill considered half a$$d ideas currently proposed.

I disagree.
Repeal and Replace killed/kills Repeal.
Repeal as a stand alone bill, possibly post dated to July first or whenever, must be passed first. Otherwise the ill considered ideas currently proposed will just be ObamaLite.

I will go with Meadows. but Trump has lost our trust. I want free market and this deal is communism but what Meadows does, I will be ok with. But conservatives are not the little dog with trump.- they are the BIG DOG. And let the big dag eat or watch your arm for massive bleeding.

Excellent parallel. I am forced to buy flood insurance - but at least I get group rates. Not quite the same as health insurance which is a much higher risk than a flood (I hope).

Why does this have to happen in public? Why can’t they just go into a room, beat each other up for a few hours, and come out with a joint proposal?

Lost “our” trust?

Only peoples’ trust who freak easily at the drop of a pin and don’t see the long view a-tall.

There isn’t a mandate to buy it unless you have a mortgage, correct?

Trump should never have pressured them in this direction, and should have proposed a clean repeal and free market solution. Sigh.

Meadows is a liar. They stated they supported replacement last week in their meetings with Trump. Now they're claiming they always supported repeal only, but now they're backing off and support replacement--for the second time.

That said, it is a functionally retarded position to ask for full repeal despite that putting millions of people out of their insurance. You do not defund or totally destroy a new entitlement in a farking day and just say, "muh conservative principles" as people go into serious economic hardship as a result.

That’s what they did last week, went into a room, but couldn’t agree.

Dealing in private didn’t work, so now they’re trying another way.

You have no evidence of that. Disinformation being spread to tarnish the FC. Serious economic hardship? That’s what Obamacare put people into. Those who are poor have Medicaid. You can phase the Obamacare subsidies out over a year or so if needed, but without all the superfluous mandates, insurance will get cheaper again.

Admits that they’re moving goalposts in the direction of Trump, i.e., the opposite of what they have been accused.

As I explained to the other fellow, he's lying. There are multiple articles from last week of the HFC telling Trump that they agree to repeal and REPLACE. That they had come to that firm agreement "in principle" at the very least, and that only the details remain.

Meadows is lying when he claims that they supported repeal but are now back onto replace.

Meadows is also lying about the nature of his concessions. Community Rating is the other name for covering people with pre-existing conditions.

He picked this in particular, knowing this is just a phase one part of the plan--with more reforms to come in later installments, because he knows that it won't pass the House or Senate even if they get all 30 HFC retards to vote in favor of it.

More political theater, basically.

Definitely the second one.

But more than a few old timers here have sent me some pretty nasty posts defending Ryancare :)

Thank God we chat over the net.

They would have clobbered me in person :)

You have no evidence of that.

Here's just one of the news stories on their "agreement in principle on repeal and REPLACE":

http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/325336-freedom-caucus-chair-optimistic-about-obamacare-repeal-deal

That's from the 22nd, and this dickhead is basically repeating the same thing he said in that article but acting like it's a new position.

Serious economic hardship? That’s what Obamacare put people into.

There are millions of people right now with pre-existing conditions or in states that extended medicare who will be thrown off their insurance. Yes, millions more don't have insurance at all or can't afford it. So you want to screw both sides just for "muh conservative principles."

That's why conservatives don't win elections, because they want to do dumbass s*** like getting rid of medicare or social security while the cheap plastic crap from China still floods in.
