What would happen in 2018 when premiums increase over the already unaffordable Obamacare rates? Ryancare would have increased rates for the next 2 years. Why can’t insurance be allowed to be purchased across state lines as promised?

Well, for one thing, it would be a massive trampling of states' rights. Funny how the "purists" overlook that inconvenient truth.

Make no mistake: I agree that the "selling across state lines" issue is a huge impediment to competition, but it sure seems to violate states' rights, because you'd have the federal government (which has no role over healthcare, right?) dictating what the states can (or can't) do with respect to insurance.

Seems pretty sticky to me, although I'd love to hear somebody explain how it's somehow not a states' rights issue.

People seem to want to have their cake and eat it too: on the one hand, they decry the federal government's involvement in the process at all, and on the other hand, they demand solutions which require the federal government's involvement.

And People wonder why the GOP Congress has trouble passing something? I'll tell you why: because they're not quite the total scumbags that the Democrats are. The GOP has pangs of conscience here and there, and a knowledge of Constitutional powers and the limitations placed thereon.

The Democrats, as powerless as the truly are, must be laughing their asses off all the same: "Those stupid Relublicans! They're trying to do something the right way! What fools!"

So maybe some "purist" around here can explain to me how you fix this "across state lines" issue without obliterating federalism in yet another realm.

The commerce clause can't come to the rescue here. That's the whole point, right? Insurance is sold within each state. It's not "interstate commerce"...
