The bodies of two UN experts who went missing in the Democratic Republic of Congo this month have been found, the United Nations said in a statement Tuesday.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said UN peacekeepers discovered the bodies of US citizen Michael Sharp and Swedish national Zaida Catalan on Monday outside the city of Kananga. The body of their Congolese interpreter, Betu Tshintela, was also discovered with them.
A Congo government official told CNN that Catalan's body was found decapitated, but Sharp and Tshintela were not beheaded. Their cause of death is not determined, according to government spokesman Lambert Mende.
"They were found together with the body of a Congolese interpreter who was working with them and who was identified clearly by our police," Mende said.
The bodies are at a municipal hospital in Kasai province and Mende said their remains will likely be transferred to Kinshasa on Thursday.

RIP. Who did they report to in NY? That put them in this?
Well, they were with the UN. How could they be real experts? They can’t even acknowledge the bitter hate that emanates from the occupants of that hell hole.
some people here are not very charitable. wonder what JC would have thought?
Yeah, the UN, how about that graft and continual sex scandal problem they have?
The oil for weapons scandal between the UN and Iraq.
The UN is a place where nobody can use the restroom without there being graft, kickbacks, and a sex scandal somewhere along the line.
It is NOT a great shining cause.
Anyone thinking the UN is worthwhile has some screws loose.
There all three solved right here from my desk.
AMISH?
What do you think!!
Prayers to their families
you sound very bitter and cynical.
No, just apparently better informed than you.
And tell me what you think about those search results as well.
I'm not a bedwetter by any stretch, but I know someone who knew Michael Sharp and said he was a really nice, hard working, good hearted guy who wanted to try to rectify human rights violations in the area. These aren't the San Francisco types, they're trying to promote some human decency and were killed for it. Not sure they deserved it or the shit they're taking from people here on this site.
That said, I'm sure they knew they were working in a dangerous area.
Her shirt says “Look deep into nature and you will understand everything better”.
People in her position need to look deep into human nature.
I’m just guessing but I don’t think she had any doubts that the people she was chasing are evil and dangerous.
I suspect she over-valued her own abilities. Maybe she’d been lucky in the past and thought she would never run out of luck.
But as a wise man once told me: “You never run out of luck. You just either have it when you need it, or you don’t.”
Yeah. I don’t know. Putting on a UN badge and going to some of those places...well, I would say an armed escort is a necessity. That’s a target to a lot of people in other parts of the world.
I despise the UN, and I think people who work for the UN are almost universally liberal, no matter where on the globe they come from.
Doesn’t mean they should die for that.
That’s a good saying, by the way.
People in her position need to look deep into human nature.
Nature is heartless and cruel. The predator doesn't care about the prey's feelings. Not far removed from human nature, if at all.
Actually, her shirt makes perfect sense, but only if you look at it truthfully.
Cynical or not, he is right. The UN is one of the most, if not THE most corrupt organization on the planet.
Appeasement?
The Swedish woman was an EU expert on sexual violence in the Congo. Not making this up!
It does, and I agree with you on that.
But I strongly suspect most liberals do not see that saying on the shirt the same way you and I do.
It boils down to that fundamental difference between liberals and conservatives: Liberals think nature and people are innately good, and ‘other things’ make them bad...removing those ‘other things’ will remove evil, and they will have their utopia.
Conservatives believe that nature and people can be very dangerous regardless of how good or bad they may appear to be, and it is wise to take that into account and adjust your actions accordingly.
