Amid Democratic opposition, Republican leaders are retreating from President Donald Trump’s very popular campaign promise to build a border fence to block illegal immigration, drug smugglers, and criminals.
A top GOP leader, Sen. Roy Blunt, told reporters on Tuesday that GOP leaders do not want to include Trump’s spending for the border wall in the spring budget, which is due by April 28. “All of the committees, the leaderships of the House and Senate, are working together to try to finalize the rest of the FY17 [budget spending] bill,” he added. “My guess is that comes together better without the [border] supplemental,” he told The Hill.
Top Democrats are hoping to wreck Trump’s presidency by blocking any funding for his key campaign promise. “The wall is a poison-pill rider,” Schumer said in an interview with Politico. “They’ll do it at their peril.”

A $20B wall in a $3T budget would be like a $600 expense on a $100,000 household budget.

But there was no stopping the Trump Train.
I don’t blame Trump really I knew what I was getting and expecting when I voted for him (which was to stop the Beast and deport as many illegals as he could, which he seems to be doing). Anything else is gravy.
It’s not looking like there’s going to be any gravy though at least not this year.
And while we’re taking about predictions that come true I also predicted he’d never be able to repeal (substantially) Obamacare.

Again, I don’t fault him for it but it’s as I said in one of those posts above: Trump had (and still has) NO idea about the level of entrenched establishment in Washington DC. None. Nada.
He’s a successful businessman and that experience, while possibly helpful in trade negotiation, and definitely in executive action, is of little value in the beltway. Anyone who has ever worked in this area, on government contracts or for the government itself, knows this knows how this place “operates” and it ain’t with a drive to better the country or even oneself.
The entire pervasive infective mentality is to just do “enough”, go to enough meetings, know enough people, show just enough “work” to convince (or really connive) the public that you’re actually doing something. And yeah, go to a few choice parties while you’re at it (just make sure to somehow justify writing all that off as some kind of business expense. After all it’s “free”, the government is paying! Yay)

The GOP ‘leaders’ better get their minds straightened out.
BUILDING THE WALL was the biggest reason Trump was elected.
It will be LOCK & LOAD time if it doesn’t progress as Trump promised.
ANY GOP politician that doesn’t support IMMEDIATE & CONTINUING work on the wall will be facing serious opposition in their next election,.
