I agree with you. At a minimum, it should be an OPT OUT situation. I should be able to say “NO, you don’t sell mine” if I don’t want it sold to third parties.

You can still opt out. Facebook and Google were never included in the original, never implemented, directive.
Obama was exercising crony capitalism.

Someone should create an app and browser that would charge whoever wants to use the information.

If I use the app or browser it should include a tag that would require anyone that wanted my information to have to pay me.

Make it free for me to install. They would get a share of any revenues generated.

I have no idea how much people get for “clicks” on their sites, but if they get anything for me clicking, I should get the same thing! Half of what they get sounds good. The app or browser get some of my share.
