N. Korea conducted another rocket engine test last week: report

SEOUL, March 28 (Yonhap) -- North Korea carried out another ballistic missile engine test last week, a foreign news report said Tuesday.

The North's move, the second in less than a week, took place Friday, the U.S. cable news channel CNN said, quoting two unnamed U.S. defense officials.

The North's state media announced on March 19 that it succeeded in a high-thrust rocket engine test.

Knowing that sadistic sob kim i’m ill, they probably strapped the mission engineer of the last super-failure to the rocket.

There is no doubt we must preemptively strike and occupy north Korea. They have overtly threatened nuclear attack on our country and on our Asian Troops. The time is very soon. Trump must purge the military of its faggots and women in combat emphasis and retool. I am not opposed to tactical nuke but we4 may beable to use huge cluster bombs here. We must obliterate 3 things. 1 the nuclear bomb sites. 2. the political and ,military leadership in Pyongyang ( all of it). and 200,000 troops on the DMZ. All will have to be removed as a threat. Then we invade and occupy .

Here is another related news. A think-tank bought their new data analytics software to show what is essentially a no-brainer. I am not saying big data software is useless, but sometimes they are so eager to show it off by applying it to things which can be done without its help.

N. Korea 50 pct likely to conduct nuclear or missile test in next 30 days: think tank

WASHINGTON, March 27 (Yonhap) -- North Korea is 50 percent likely to conduct a nuclear test or a missile launch in the next 30 days, a U.S. think tank has predicted based on analysis of big data on the communist nation.

"Beyond Parallel," a North Korea analysis project of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), made the prediction after analyzing how often the North is discussed on the Internet in an effort to predict future possibilities, with a higher frequency meaning stronger "signals."

"The prediction is showing that within the next 14 days the likelihood of North Korean WMD activity is 22 percent while within the next 30 days the likelihood of such activity is 50 percent," CSIS said in the report, adding that WMD activity refers to nuclear or missile tests.

"After dropping off slightly following the March 22 failed missile launch, the 14-day exponential moving averages for the underlying signals bottomed out over the weekend and increased slightly Monday morning," the report said of the analysis conducted jointly with big data firm Predata.

The report said that April will see a "high chance of North Korean actions."

Over the last month, the North has carried out banned ballistic missile launches and a rocket engine test. The country has been showing signs of activity at its nuclear test site for what could be part of preparations for its sixth nuclear test.

Next step for Kim: Anthrax?

Kim Jong Un Tours Pesticide Facility Capable of Producing Biological Weapons: A 38 North Special Report

Biological weapons facilities are notoriously difficult to identify and monitor because of their dual-use nature. What looks like a civilian facility can also function as a military facility. More challenging still, is the fact that these facilities can operate in each capacity as demonstrated by the Soviet and Iraqi BW programs.

The Pyongyang Bio-technical Institute clearly fits that mode. Given North Korea’s known history and interest in biological weapons, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that the Institute is intended to produce military-size batches of anthrax. If Pyongyang was interested only in food security, it could have procured Bt bio-insecticide legally and at a fraction of the cost. Instead, by choosing to illicitly import the dual-use equipment, North Korea is likely using the facility to maintain a latent BW capability—or worse—actively producing anthrax. The bottom line is that regardless of whether the equipment is being used to produce anthrax today, it could in the near future.

North Korean missile crisis: Bishop told Australia in firing line for nuclear attack

North Korea has heavy artillery trained on Seoul and would almost certainly inflict severe damage on the city, reigniting a second Korean War.

It is difficult, if not impossible, to deliver such a surgical strike against North Korea with its mountainous interior and numerous tunnels and bunkers.

Kim uses multiple missile sites to launch his rockets and missiles are moved around the country on mobile launchers to try to deceive potential adversaries. Intelligence would have to be near-perfect and the attack flawless. Even then, North Korea has a massive land army that could be unleashed on the South.

I can’t imagine any sane solution to this...nor that of allowing this nut job and his cohorts to continue with these threats....there IS going to be a breaking point if this keeps up....or they’ll dangle another carrot for Kim and the same show will continue in time.

KPA General Staff Warns U.S., S. Korean Forces of “Special Operation”

1. The General Staff declares the KPA’s stand to mercilessly smash the enemy's moves with its own style of special operation and preemptive attack, now that the sinister aim of the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean war maniacs’ “special operation” to hurt the dignity of the DPRK’s supreme leadership has become clear and they disclosed even the dangerous attempt at “preemptive attack.”

They are sadly mistaken if their brigandish “special operation” and “preemptive strike” would work on this land guarded by the powerful revolutionary Paektusan army though they claim they proved successful in other countries and regions.

2. They should be mindful that the KPA will deal deadly blows without prior warning any time as long as the operation means and troops of the U.S. and south Korean puppet forces involved in the “special operation” and “preemptive attack” targeting the DPRK remain deployed in and around south Korea.

The KPA’s warning is not hot air.

As they always writes alarming texts it is difficult to identify any increase in the threat level. Is “not not air” worse than for instance “not rhetoric” or “not cold air”?

Well that is the dilemma....I think we have a general idea of their capabilities, but how functional and effective they are is of course another story.....Which is exactly why nothings been done for 50 years plus....even to this day. Their military personnel doesn't strike me as "fit" for armed combat...thus they do rely on the nuclear threat as their defense. Heck they've barely kept their foot soldiers in shoes and food....

Thy mentioned “the powerful revolutionary Paektusan army”

Perhaps the solution to NK is this:

Sacred Volcano in North Korea May Be Waiting to Blow

Sprinkled with villages and blueberries, Mount Paektu has been rumbling, prompting an international effort to study its underbelly.

And the results, though not particularly surprising, are nonetheless informative: Beneath Mount Paektu is a layer of partially melted rock—a mushy mixture of liquid, gas, crystals, and rock.

“That sort of confirms the idea that the volcano is quite active,” Iacovino says. “But how much of it is ‘eruptable?’ That’s a big question.”

Exactly how much magma there is and the size of the partially melted reservoir are still unknowns.

It’s way too soon to say whether future eruptions are possible, but the partially melted magma suggests that whatever is fueling Mount Paektu’s outbursts isn’t quite yet done. And scientists say an explosion on the scale of the volcano’s A.D. 946 outburst could be catastrophi

Ranking among the largest volcanic eruptions of the Common Era (CE), the ‘Millennium Eruption’ of Changbaishan produced a widely-dispersed tephra layer (known as the B-Tm ash), which represents an important tie point for palaeoenvironmental studies in East Asia. Hitherto, there has been no consensus on its age, with estimates spanning at least the tenth century CE.

Here, we identify the cosmogenic radiocarbon signal of 775 CE in a subfossil larch engulfed and killed by pyroclastic currents emplaced during the initial rhyolitic phase of the explosive eruption. Combined with glaciochemical evidence from Greenland, this enables us to date the eruption to late 946 CE. This secure date rules out the possibility that the Millennium Eruption contributed to the collapse of the Bohai Kingdom (Manchuria/Korea) in 926 CE, as has previously been hypothesised.

Further, despite the magnitude of the eruption, we do not see a consequent cooling signal in tree-ring-based reconstructions of Northern Hemisphere summer temperatures. A tightly-constrained date for the Millennium Eruption improves the prospect for further investigations of historical sources that may shed light on the eruption’s impacts, and enhances the value of the B-Tm ash as a chronostratigraphic marker.

When the volcano goes off, it would be big. However, all news regarding this volcano seem to indicate that it will be a while before it happens. In the mean time, another possible scenario is appearing. That is, if NK tests their hydrogen bomb and the explosion breaks out of underground containment due to it power of blast, it could irradiate large area of North Eastern N. Korea and part of Manchuria.

Kim Jong-un has been so cocky and confident(at least in public) that he will definitely push the envelope. From his point of view, he is so close to the ultimate prize, maybe less than a year away. I don't think he will slow down if U.S. and China go about their way as they do now: passing bucks, blaming each other, with no real action from either side.

Yes, there are no indications that Mount Paektu will erupt soon, it is just a big unknown.

You are right that there might be accidents either at their nuclear bomb site or perhaps at sites for production of chemical WMD. However, the effect of these are probably limited in scale. An accident at a production facility for biological weapons, as well as a pandemic flu or similar might have bigger impact due to the bad health ad food situation in NK.

The only defense Kim has is nuclear....and all his cabinet know it and boast this is so.

The photo was, as always, staged to show they weren’t really concerned their one launch failed. But it also evidenced Kim’s likely more comfortable in his position or that could have never been staged as so.
