We Can Still Get Healthcare [insurance] Right [Rep. Dave Brat]
Facebook ^ | March 26, 2017 | Dave Brat

Posted on 03/27/2017 10:33:36 AM PDT by Qiviut

Rep. Dave Brat is my rep. Yesterday, he posted an article to his constituents on his Facebook page. There are a lot of rumors & "who shot John" accusations flying around, but here it is straight from a Freedom Caucus & Conservative mouth as to what happened. There are a lot of terrific comments in this article and it's well worth reading. Personally, Dave Brat speaks for me ...... it was a great day when Eric Cantor was deposed from his self-assumed throne & I am grateful every day for Dave Brat. So far he has acted in the best interests of those who have elected him instead of playing politics & he communicates well as to why he believes what he does and votes the way he does. He is also the only House member with a PhD in Economics so he has a good idea how "things" like market forces and government mandated programs work. The entire article is below.

Rep. Mo Brooks files bill to repeal Obamacare

http://www.al.com/news/huntsville/index.ssf/2017/03/rep_mo_brooks_files_bill_to_re.html

In a simple two-page document, an Alabama congressman has filed a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives to repeal Obamacare.

Or, as it is stated in the bill, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Huntsville, introduced the bill Friday.

“This Act may be cited as the ‘Obamacare Repeal Act,’” the bill states.

And the bill uses just one sentence to do it.

“Effective as of Dec. 31, 2017, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is repealed, and the provisions of law amended or repealed by such Act are restored or revived as if such Act had not been enacted,” the bill states........

““Trump has proven he has no problem throwing the FC under the bus”

No exactly true. Trump wrote a letter to the Freedom Caucus that guaranteed that their issues would be addressed in phase 2 of the bill.”

reminds me of the enforcement phase of the Simpson-Mazolli act of 1986: it never happened

Maybe so, but I believe President Trump is a man of his word.

“No excuses. If the house or senate rules are obstacles to repeal with a simple majority vote, then change the damned rules already! The constitution gives you the majority the power to do that.”

Lyin’ Ryan back in January 2016:

“Conservatives and the Freedom Caucus are not our enemies. The big government globalist establishment is.”

Bingo.
It’s not the 18 FC members who stood against this POS who are aligned with the Chamber of Commerce and George Soros. Thank God for the few members like Dave Brat who still believe in a free republic.

Does the constitution even matter to you people anymore?
Does the Republic matter?
Does Liberty matter?
Does a free market economy matter?

Yes. The People want to preserve those while too many in government want to destroy them.
Those very same people in government have every creature comfort with no worries of personal budget while most of us have to make choices in the things that we need most urgently.
They have use of their jets while we can't afford to take our cars (health ins) on the road.

Let me tell you, Grandpa Dave, if Trump seriously thinks the Freedom Caucus and other conservative representatives are going to be punished by their constituencies for stopping RyanCare, he's seriously deluded.

REPEAL!

“Costs go through the roof when the government unconstitutionally mandates that everyone MUST be covered and must be covered for all kinds of crap they don’t need or want and regardless of preexisting conditions or whether they can pay for it or even if they are not citizens.”

Exactly right! In what universe could something like that ever work?

Yep. Replace it and let the market work it out. Too bad they couldn’t roll back Bush’s Part D giveaway too. The entitlements and politicians pensions and free lifetime healthcare are dragging us down to third world status.

If you do that, correct me if I’m wrong, you require 60 votes to pass in the Senate, right?

The Constitution empowers the house and senate to make their own rules. They can change the rule by majority vote. What did Harry Reid do when he held the majority?

No one ever came up with a solution to covering pre-existing conditions during that time, even though that market was just as big.

Perhaps that is the “first clue” - there is no market.

What you are asking for is basically impossible. You want “insurance” for people that you know are going to be sick and very sick at that.

Easy to say, if you misread my posts. The government's “funny money” machinations with Medicaid and Medicare is what distorts the marketplace. If the gov desires to involve itself in the market, it should be bound by competitive market prices and limited to any existing market “mandates” and none other.

The solution prior to the ACA was pretty simple: no coverage. You go to the hospital, you pay out of pocket, and eventually you either die or go bankrupt. Frankly, that’s the conservative solution.

Agreed. Whether our nation is to play a more compassionate role in that regard is a political matter for the voters. Most of us agree there is some room for a gov role; however, such programs should be paid out of general revenues at healthcare market rates and should not transfer costs to only healthcare buyers.

…dump everyone with a pre-x in Medicare in my view.

Better yet, avoid further confusing the payroll-funded Medicare program and dump everyone with a pre-x into Medicaid. This will give state voters an opportunity to decide if that is how they want to spend their tax dollars.
