Can Republicans govern if they can’t keep a promise they’ve made for 7 years?
McClatchy DC ^ | March 26th, 2017 | By Lesley Clark

WASHINGTON - Republicans exulted in November when they won the White House and both congressional chambers, promising aggressive moves on health care, taxes and immigration.

But a spectacular stumble on the first agenda item amid intra-party squabbles begs the question of whether the party will be able to get anything done if it can’t deliver on a promise it has made for nearly a decade.

“We were a 10-year opposition party, where being against things was easy to do,” said House Speaker Paul Ryan, faced with the biggest loss of his career. “And now in three months’ time we tried to go to a governing party. We will get there, but we weren’t there today".

Ryan got his job after House Speaker John Boehner stepped down, often pressed by a raucous conservative wing to take a harder line. But though conservative members groused about Ryan’s handling of the legislation – saying he had boxed out various factions, many expressed confidence Friday that he’d retain his seat – for practical reasons, as well as political.

The title is a ridiculous question.

OF COURSE the Republicans in Congress cannot govern. They are corrupt and duplicitous hypocrites, all of whom have been elected within the last 10 years by lying to their voters.

One showboat vote after another, sometimes interspersed with completely caving to whatever the Democrats wanted.

Why would ANYONE now expect them to have the skill or integrity to now actually govern?

The country is better off with a group of Republicans who can’t govern than it is with a group of DemonicRATS who can.

Well, they can govern, just not Constitutionally. They have no real interest in doing so. It doesn’t pay.

Sadly, sucking less is the only viable option given that Republicans basically stand for slowing down progressivism while protecting what has already been done.

They’re like a drunk who only drinks slowly.

Whilst Democrats are like drunks who’ve gone insane and blind from skimming their drinks ala methyl alcohol poisoning.

So, yeah, they such less.

Did they really make that promise? Their actions seemed to say they liked ACA?

How were they a ten year opposition party? 2006 to 2010 is not ten years.

“Opposition” party my eye. They gave Dems practically everything they wanted. They helped enable and facilitate the steady march of culture and government to the left.

I cannot and will not speak for you. That would be both stupid and arrogant (I leave that for the Dems and RINOs we have in such great abundance in the swamp).

I did NOT vote to replace Obamacare.

I voted to REPEAL Obamacare.

Geesh, this was just the House. What do you think would have happened with that Health care bill once it hit the Senate? We are relying on people like McCain, Graham, and a score of other treacherous RINOs to cooperate.

The problem that we always have is that the GOP does not want to work for The People.

That's the beauty of our system. It's designed to be tough to get things done. Hence, the philosophy, "That which governs least, governs best." The Founding Fathers expected us to act like grownups, not lifelong children.

And they weren't just throwing ideas at the wall like spaghetti. They were students of history. They knew what governments did to their own citizens (or subjects, as the case may be).

Believe it or not, Socialism is not a 20th century or even a late 19th century idea. It's been around almost since the dawn of man.

Drivel?

Do you have some evidence the Republicans in Congress have either the skill or integrity to govern?

The question is amiss...
“Can Republicans govern if they can’t keep a promise they’ve made for 7 years?”

I do not want, nor need the GOP or the Federal Government to “Govern” me PERIOD and this is the problem so many have they accept they need to be Govern by things of this World vice Governing themselves by God Order... Yep now were getting to the root of the problem...

God Bless

Actually I see it as more taking it back slowly. The dems incrementally moved the country to left. Too far for the majority of Americans. We have to turn it around and go the other direction. There is no way to immediately change it.
