EDINBURG, TX - An undocumented mother of 12 is fighting deportation and she’s getting help from the Mexican Consulate in McAllen, Texas.
She’s one of hundreds across the country targeted in renewed federal efforts to crack down on criminal aliens.
Norma Roman tries to keep herself and her children busy. The mother, whose kids were all born in the U.S., helps her kids with their homework to take their minds off a grim reality: the possible separation from their mother. She says she’s placing her faith in god and in her attorney. She currently has an "order of removal" by Immigration and Customs Enforcement after multiple run-ins with the law.
In 2011, Norma overstayed her visa and left the country only to be smuggled back days later.
In September, Norma was arrested for taking an extra $5,000 in food stamps, aid Norma claims she didn’t know she wasn’t supposed to receive.
She says that she spent 36 days in jail and paid the money back.
But with limited resources to fight deportation, the 39-year-old turned to the Mexican Consulate for help.
Consul Guillermo Ordorica says that all 50 Mexican Consulates in the U.S. were instructed by the Mexican government to provide legal aid and create what are known as "centers for defense."
It’s all in response to the increasing number of immigration raids by the Trump administration.

1. Why is the Mexican Consulate in the U.S. being permitted by our government to assist people breaking our immigration laws?
2. This woman has nerve as she was deported once, got smuggled right back in, is here illegally but is using benefits (and stole from the benefits system at that), and pronounces if she gets deported she'll come right back. She clearly has no respect for our laws.
3. Her husband is a seasonal worker gone 3 months out of the year. Is he here legally? If he is, why doesn't she have a green card? If he isn't, why are they getting benefits? They have 12 kids - 2 with learning disabilities.
4. She still doesn't speak English, and she has been here for years.
5. I know that if someone breaks any other law, they have to pay the consequences, even if that is separation from their family by going to jail.
6. Here's where it gets tricky, and I'm sure many here will disagree. Despite these things, her children are citizens and will be staying here, and their father is staying here. I don't know who had them when she spent 3 months in prison. If her children all would have to go into the hands of the state, would it be better if she be permitted to stay to take care of the kids? Let's just look at it from a cost standpoint - putting 12 kids in government care (and likely dividing them) would probably cost more than letting them stay with their mother.
Why is the US tolerating 50 Mexican consulates being used to defend illegal activity? Start closing them.

If the Mexican consulate is promoting illegal activity, they need to be shut down and deported themselves.
Mother of 12. That’s why I’m so negative when it comes to the future of this country. The third worlders are doing a number on us, and even if we deported the bad hombres en made, and that is not happening, they still have us beat. You could never make a dent. Enough of them here are anchor baby citizens to keep squeezing out more pups on our dime to change the face of America so that we will always be crippled. The time to act was decades ago. I’m sure the spawn are dual citizenship. So, no problem with this law breaker mother taking them back to their country and keeping them their.
We need to end the concept (which is bad “law”) of non-citizens dropping a baby on our soil and it becomes our problem. Those children should never be citizens.
