Yes. In fact, former Greenpeace ecologist Patrick Moore points out that if left alone, the Earth would eventually suffocate all life in only about 2 million more years. (And we got really close to this in the last ice age). This is because living things suck carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and use it in ways that do not naturally return to the atmosphere.
For example: Chalk
The fossil fuels and cement industry have been blamed for destroying the Earth. However, ironically, they are the two major industries that are putting carbon back into the atmosphere. The fossil fuels that we have burned so far have added 11 million years to life on Earth.
The TRUTH about carbon dioxide (C02): Patrick Moore, Sensible Environmentalist
The Warmists are worrisome in that technology is rapidly approaching the point where mankind can actually do something about CO2 levels or cloud cover or other climate changing things. When we reach that point the temptation is to use the ability before we actually know what we are doing. We can change something but probably won’t recognize that a balance has been upset and we have triggered catastrophe until the process is too far along. At the point that we recognize the new deterioration it is too late to avoid it. By the time we see it the damage will be unavoidably in train. We may be soon able to initiate a process well before we understand all the changes that will ineluctably follow on. It is tunnel blind vision.
