Sure a lot of pimples in the ground near there!
Actually; they look more like DIMPLES!

Those are "slump craters". An underground nuke shot creates a spherical underground cavity; when the cavity collapses, the ground far above it "slumps" downward and forms a "slump crater" above the explosion site.
The human mind expects illumination to be coming from above -- but, at the NTS, when viewed with north at the top, the southerly sun appears to be coming from below.
One way to resolve the issue is to put South at the top by rotating the "N" pointer at upper right to the bottom. But most folks can "turn the pimples into dimples" by simply telling themselves, "the sunlight is coming from below".

With photos of impact ("moon") craters, the illusion/effect can be created/eliminated by simply turning the photo upside down. Here is Arizona's Barringer Meteor Crater:
And, here it is as a "dome" --- the same picture (and lighting) inverted:
Even as practiced as I am, I can't "correct" that lower image by just thinking about it... '-)
The same effect is seen in viewing old Egyptian carvings;
depending on the location of the illumination of the sidelight.
BTW...
...I’ve been down inside this crater back in the day when visitors were allowed to walk down the trail.
Seems like some woman twisted/broke(?) her ankle and sued them so they closed the trail.
Yes; she WAS wearing high heels!
Ain’t our courts wonderful!
