The medical care delivery infrastructure of America has gotten so lame that it will need crutches for quite a while.
People with no patience are their (and their country’s) worst enemies.
“DJT is talking about bringing on the Democrats for the next health care push. Nice.”
Well ain’t that special.
He should also include the Canadians, and the Mexicans, and the French, and the Germans, and the Japanese....
Let’s make a deal!
Everyone has been suckered in.
Federal government control over healthcare is ILLEGAL.
Federal government control over healthcare is ILLEGAL - just as much so as any UN control over healthcare.
Conservatives are assuming that government has a role in healthcare.
Then they proceed to argue the finer points over how the government should or should not include pre-natal healthcare, should their be a 4% or 6% increase here, how about opiates for prescription, or not.
Hey I have an idea. Why dont we start with the presupposition that everyone, all the world citizens, should have healthcare. Lets have the UN create the World Health Care Act. Yea, why not. The WHCA. Then we call discuss and hyperventilate all the stupid finer points around that.
Uh, hey, There were some aspects of the WHCA bill that I didnt like, but I was not clear on all the points in the bill. I admit I dont follow this stuff 23 hrs a day, dont have the time or gigabytes to do so. But whatever. I am sure the conservatives over there at the UN will figure it out for me.
Sorry, I don’t have a link to a pic of the ‘silk’ purse made from a sow’s ear, just the back story. But I saw the purse with my own eyes, and it was beautiful:
‘Massachusetts industrialist Arthur D. Little liked a challenge. In 1921, after hearing someone quote Jonathan Swift’s adage, “You can’t make a silk purse of a sow’s ear,”
Little decided to try to do just that. From a meat-packer he obtained a form of glue made from the skin and gristle of sows’ ears. Taking an amount roughly equivalent to one sow’s ear, he had it filtered and forced through a spinneret into a mixture of formaldehyde and acetone. The glue emerged as 16 fine, colorless streams that hardened and then combined to form a single composite fiber. Little soaked the fiber in dyed glycerin. Then he wove the resulting thread into cloth on a handloom-and fashioned the cloth into the elegant purse shown here, the kind of item carried by ladies of the Middle Ages.’

Oh, easily!
The US Screams have the de facto power of making anything they wish “constitutional” and “legal.”
That was the Achilles heel that was built into the constitution (along with some grodier things at first, like the sanctioning of race based chattel slavery).
The answer isn’t found on the horizontal plane; it’s found on the vertical plane. All this interference is wrong not because it’s illegal but because it’s ungodly. In the name of trying to equalize access to health care, it reduces the overall amount of it. It is just like socialism to share misery equally (or try to — there are always cheats) and capitalism to share bounty unequally (except again there is always charity).
Not in Congress. A whole lot of Cantorizing needs to happen.
With a little chemistry it is amazing.
Agreed! To think someone like Arthur D. Little would take so much time and effort, just to challenge an adage. He must have been an interesting person.
Trump should send nobody on the Sunday shows, team up with conservatives, vote out Ryan Monday along with passing the other healthcare bill we heard about.
The thing is when Obamacare continues to fall apart, the folks on tv and in DC will say the solution is more government control and influence, not the kind of repeal that some conservatives are imagining.

Trump is already talking about just letting Obamacare eventually collapse, which will force Dems to the negotiating table he says within a year afterwards. In other words, we will likely have Obamacare for at least another 2-4 years at which point, if Trump is still president, he will work together with the Dems for a bipartisan bill which will likely be considerably to the left of the modified one he worked with the Freedom Caucus on that could theoretically make it past the filibuster.
Thats if we are lucky. The Dems may well be back in power by then, at which point we will likely be on the fast-track to government-run health care. It is entertaining to see how many Freepers are celebrating the possibly permanent retention of Obamacare today and the biggest victory that the Dems have had since Trump took office. There is a reason the lefties are gloating with such delight. This was a Pyrrhic victory for the all-or-nothing type of conservative if Ive ever seen one.
Hopefully, something decent can be salvaged from this wreck, but I think its naïve to put any faith in the idea. This was about as conservative a bill that could be done via reconciliation with no Democrat votes; the next step is to craft something new that the Democrats will support (although Trump wants to wait years to even do that by his own account). No one should think for a second that Obamacare isn’t the Republicans’ baby from here on out either. I just hope it doesn’t cost us in 2018 and 2020. The Republican Party has proven itself to be an all-around disaster yet again.
“Hopefully, something decent can be salvaged from this wreck,..”
Like what?
A really good federal controlled healthcare plan?
We are stuck on stupid!
Why do we start with the premise that the government should have control over our lives?
Why do we ASSUME that the federal government has a role in our healthcare?
Sheesh!
It is ILLEGAL for the federal government to have any role in healthcare!
ILLEGAL!!
It doesn’t make any difference if the R’s come with a good plan, or a decent bill, in congress or not. It is ILLEGAL!
Nope, if you’ve read the Dem sites you would know the default position is they will vote no on everything. Or abstain.
They will not cooperate in anything at all.
That's precisely what we've moved towards today--yet many here are celebrating. What you want will never get passed; the next replacement bill will be bipartisan and much more clearly to the left. You can scream about "ILLEGALITY" all you want, but it means absolutely nothing unless you've found a way to overrule the Supreme Court.
Now we are stuck with most likely simply keeping Obamacare or getting something worse. I get it. Some people think sticking 100% to their principles, losing, and keeping Obamacare is the right choice. This isn't some perfect world where you get exactly what you want. The Republicans in the Congress had to try to get something through via reconciliation. They did not have much wiggle room in order to keep all the Republicans on board without working to appeal to Dems. Compromise was a requirement. Since that's failed, the next step, as the president already made clear, will be to negotiate for Dem support.
We had a chance to get rid of Obamacare, and we didn't. It is very questionable whether we'll have a viable chance again (i.e., one that can actually pass), unless we replace it with a new plan that appeals to Democrats much more than this failed one did.
What I was hoping might be salvaged would be getting rid of at least some of Obamacare eventually (esp. the mandate), although I have serious doubts that will happen at this point. I'm tired of how many conservatives believe that losing and getting zero of what we want (but sticking by principle) is better than winning and getting most of what we want even if we can't get 100%. Too many people here entirely ignore practicality and would rather everything burn to the ground than to compromise. Now we most likely get to have years more of Obamacare thanks to that mindset.
Well, the bill could hardly be worse.
If Trump’s way is not the way of conservatives, of liberty, then he’s barking up the wrong tree.
Ryan tried to play games and lost.
