So some may be BS but I have had two friends raped on Big Ten campuses.
One had been given a spiked drink by someone and then gang raped. The second was raped by a middle east student that was a classmate of hers. In the first case they did catch the perpetrators about a year later and they went to prison.
In the second case the student had to flee the country to avoid prosecution. Cops in the first case said it was a frequent occurrence for women to be given spiked drinks and raped on campus. She did report the rape to the police department and not just campus police so I think that’s why more was done.
But neither of these rapes were by white frat boys
I relate to your experience.
I think what a lot of critics fail to realize is that 15% of women within a certain population does not mean 15% of the men are rapists.
If < 0.1% of (i.e. less than one in a thousand) men are rapists, 15% of women could easily be their victims.
As an adult, I never drink anything unless I unseal the container. I keep the drink in my hand, and keep a sharp eye out for anyone close to it.
Sounds a little over the top, but it’s just common sense and easy to do.
If there’s any question at all, get yourself a fresh drink and toss the old one.
If I were a woman, I would not allow a man to go get my drink for me. I’d get it myself or take a pass on drinking.
As for drinking, I think women are safer not to. Never drink without a co-pilot. Make an agreement to stay by each other all night. Don’t fail to follow through.
If you think your friend is too intoxicated to be alone with a guy, don’t let her be alone with a guy. Stay by her side, and let him buzz off if he can’t agree to it.
