Dems may be ready to deal on Gorsuch
American Thinker ^ | 03/23/2017 | Rick Moran

Democrats may be ready to throw in the towel in opposing the nomination of Neil Gorsuch to be associate justice of the Supreme Court.  According to Politico, several sources are reporting that a group of Democrat senators may be willing to allow the Gorsuch confirmation to go through on the Senate floor in exchange for a pledge from Republicans not to get rid of the filibuster.  Their thinking is that if President Trump has another opportunity to name a Supreme Court justice, they want the option of blocking any nominee.

Another vacancy would be far more consequential, as it would determine the balance of power between liberals and conservatives on the court.

If Democrats move ahead with the plan – it's still in the early discussion phase – it would require buy-in from some Republicans, but not necessarily Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) or his top deputies. At least three rank-and-file GOP members would have to pledge not to vote to unilaterally change the Senate rules through a majority-only vote later in Trump's term – the so-called nuclear option.

Cobbling together a group of senators from opposing parties to take such a stand would be difficult, given the long-running partisan war over confirming judges and pressure from the left to deny Gorsuch confirmation. But some Democrats are worried enough about the Senate losing its unique minority rights that they've begun kicking the tires on the potential for a new bipartisan "gang."

The current talks are limited to about a half-dozen Democratic lawmakers. They haven't made an offer to Republicans yet, and Democratic leaders wouldn't support one.

Democrats familiar with the effort requested anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter that divides the caucus.

Do NOT fall for this CRAP!

Tell Chuck he has nothing to negotiate.

When you finally realize that the Dems and the Repubs. are the Uni-Party, then you finally know that they are not for America or for the American People...

Like George Carlin once said: ‘Your not part of their party’ and we are not...

They have their globalists money for them and only for them, they don’t care about anything or anyone else...

The Republicans have been called “The Stupid Party” - and rightly so, because they never miss an opportunity to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

NO DEAL YOU MORONS!!! We finally have the Dems by the short hairs, DON’T LET GO! Make them fillibuster to show who they are (especially since many/most of them voted for Gorsuch for Circuit Court judge. Then present your use of the (Harry Reid) nuclear option as being necessary to defeat the Party of Obstruction.

Not a bad play from the rats. R’s usually fold like a cheap suit, and there are probably more than 2 old timer fake Republicans who don’t want to finish off the part of judicial filibuster that Reid left in place precisely because it’s only really ever used against Republican nominees.

How nice it is, negotiating from the position of strength. Choose well, Repubs.

If McConnell caves on the next Trump Justice in advance, he should be removed as Leader of the Senate. Doesn’t he realize that the Democrats have NO power unless he gives it to them???

Just call the cloture vote. No need to make a deal.

If the Democrats vote for cloture, the filibuster is preserved, for now.

If the Democrats do not vote for cloture, nuke ‘em, and it’s all over.

You get exactly what you want without pledging anything. So why make the deal. Just call the vote.

Mitch McConnell is an addict. He's addicted to the action of deal-making.

It doesn't matter that the deal itself ultimately hurts Republicans; all that matters is that McConnell is in the middle of the action.

Democrats are offering McConnell another injection of his favorite drug, and I'm afraid he's going to shoot up and take the deal.

If the GOP goes along with this, if McConnell cannot reign in and prevent the usual suspects from preemptively surrendering when they hold the high ground, then he is worthless and the party truly is the Stupid Party.

Schumer would not hesitate to nuke the filibuster on SCOTUS nominees if the roles were reversed. If Graham, McCain, Collins, Murkowski, et al can’t see this, then they are willful idiots.

This is really simple for the GOP Senators; if the Democrats filibuster Gorsuch, go nuclear and confirm him with 51+ votes. If they hold off, and we are lucky enough to have Kenney and/or Ginsburg retire (not a chance on the latter I know), and then the Democrats filibuster, then go nuclear then.

Remember good old Boy Trent Lott giving the Democrats “equal” Committee Representation when the Senate was a 50 / 50 Tie and the President of the Senate was the Republican V.P.?

That went well, for the Democrats.

Not sure what you did; Majority Leader McConnell prevented Merrick Garland being considered, much less approved, to fill the seat of the late, great, Justice Antonin Scalia.

The conservative never Trumpers would have President Clinton, Majority Leader Schumer, Speaker Pelosi, and 10-20 million newly minted Democrat voters to keep us in perpetual slavery to go with their principles.
