Elijah Cummings: Investigate Devin Nunes for compromising investigation's independence (FAKE news)
Washington Examiner ^ | March 23, 2017 | KYLE FELDSCHER

A top House Democrat is calling for an investigation into House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes for telling the White House about new information that President Trump and his associates might have been caught up in government surveillance.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., said on CNN Thursday that Nunes shouldn't have gone to the press and then briefed Trump about an investigation where Trump is a subject. Cummings said Nunes compromised the independence of his investigation into alleged collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia by doing so.

"The intelligence committee is a very special committee, they are privy to information most of the Congress may never see. You expect them to be extremely confidential," Cummings said.

"What he did was basically to go to the president, who's being investigated by the FBI and others and by the intelligence committee, to give him information. Basically what he has done is he has scuttled and put a cloud over his own investigation, and he has become the subject, basically, or he should be, of his own investigation."

So Cummings wants to investigate the investigator who is investigating the FBI investigation of the Trump campaign.

Got it.

I’m not aware that it is illegal to tell the victim of a crime that he has been violated.

Unmasking is illegal.

The president is authorized to have any intelligence and America should know when our agencies have engaged in illegal acts.

To paraphrase adam shiftless-————”Is it possible that Mr. Nunes doesn’t trust some of the members on the committee?” “Is it also possible that some of the info linked some of the dementocrats on the committee to the leaks?”

The statements of Nunes and Cummings in the context of these events actually points to a remarkable conclusion:

1. Cummings is bitching about Nunes because he thinks the Intelligence Committee investigation is really focused on Trump and the alleged "Russian hacking" of the 2016 election.

2. Nunes felt perfectly comfortable dealing with Trump directly because the focus of the investigation is on the U.S. intelligence apparatus in the executive branch (CIA, NSA, etc.), not Trump.

The Nunes committee was tasked with investigating any Trump-Russia connection; it was not tasked with investigating something else. Thus, if he was informed of surveillance on Trump and Trump associates that was not connected with any ties to Russian interests then I don’t see how he is obligated to confer with his Democrat associates about that information.

Cummings, as usual, is doing his best to huff, puff & blow smoke up everyone’s posterior. Nunes said the transcripts he read had NOTHING to do with Russia ... very clear on that - he also said it had little if any “intelligence value”. Nunes went to the press/WH/Trump because he’s figured out how the ‘Rats play hard/dirty ball & he got in a preemptive strike.

I also saw a comment somewhere that what happened with the surveillance also involved members of Trumps family, not just the transition team - if true, I suspect this is one of the reasons why Nunes said Trump would/should be very concerned, aside from the fact that an incoming President was being surveiled by the outgoing President.
