Repatha cut by 20 percent the combined risk of having either a heart attack, stroke or a heart-related death. That happened to nearly 6 percent of people on Repatha versus more than 7 percent on the dummy drug. The benefit grew with longer use, and was 25 percent the second year, said Sabatine, who consults for Amgen and other drugmakers.

The drug cut by 15 percent a broader set of problems — the ones above plus hospitalization for chest pain or an artery-opening procedure. Nearly 10 percent of folks on Repatha had one versus more than 11 percent on the dummy drug

I got off Niacin because I was turning red and itching every time I took it and taking a benedryl wasn’t helping. And truthfully, neither was the Niacin.

House, this was the VA pharmacist telling me about this “new drug”. But, usually the VA is years behind in offering new drugs. Or used to be anyway.

GailA, where do you get this K3 complex? Is it in the vitamin section of the supermarket? GNC?

tumblindice, statins come with the fine print. “with a diet of exercise and weight loss....” And no statin, and I took them all, affected my cholesterol.

I have no idea about Earl Grey Tea - and I’m curious why you think these two items are even related.

I studied the testing of Citrus Bergamot - and my doctor was willing to do the test with me because of his concern about my higher than normal LDL, versus my allergy to Statins.

Do you have any knowledge of whether the cost of this drug will be way beyond the ability of the average person to afford ..??

I have both genetic and food issues for my cholesterol, so this would be of interest to me. However, the cost would be a primary concern to me .. and Citrus Bergamot is non-toxic and easily affordable for most people.

Oil of Bergamot is used to give Earl Grey tea its flavor.

These drugs probably cause more harm than good.

Several years ago my doctor wanted me on statins. At the time I was walking maybe 3 miles a day. After I started taking those drugs I hard leg and muscle cramps to the point it was hard for me to go for a walk. I tried every brand out there at the time and still had the same problems. I did more research on cholesterol and statins and found that there is absolutely no link between cholesterol and heart problems or strokes. As we age our cholesterol goes up, but it needed for us to live.

The real cause of coronary heart disease is inflammation over time.

I would have to look at the test results fine print to see exactly what the numbers are. I read some of the test reports statin’s and found when they claimed a 50% reduction in heart attacks, for example, all that meant was this, if you had a 97% of an attack, then with the drugs you had a 96% chance and they would manipulate the statistics to make you believe something else. I have no doubt that the numbers in this testing are the same kind. Don't forget the drug company paid for this study, how much credibility does it really have?

Stash Double Bergamot Earl Grey Black Tea is good also. In the spring/summertime/earlyfall I make sun tea and drink a couple of good size glasses per day with excellent results.

Listed below are the benefits of this great tea:

1. Good for Your Teeth
Tea contains very high levels of catechin, an antioxidant that fights oral infections. Fluoride is also a natural component of Earl Grey tea, and it’s also found in tap water. Fluoride is good for your teeth because it protects them from cavities, as well as fighting decay. So if you’re not a fan of city water, Earl Grey can be another natural way to get your daily dose of fluoride.

2. Digestion
Earl Grey tea has been known to improve digestion. It aids in the digestive process and helps relieve painful indigestion, colic and nausea. It is also used to treat intestinal problems such as worms. Because it helps the digestive process, it can also help to keep you regular.

3. Fights Anxiety and Depression

The bergamot in Earl Grey tea has been known to have a calming effect on people, as well as to boost a person’s mood. This is due to bergamot’s natural aromatherapy qualities. In this way Earl Grey is a good natural solution for people suffering from depression, stress and anxiety.

4. Energy

It may not have as much as a kick as coffee, but it does contain enough caffeine to give you a nice little afternoon boost without keeping you up all night.
5. Cancer Prevention

Earl Grey contains high quantities of antioxidants, which help our bodies to fight off free radicals that cause diseases such as cancer. Therefore, drinking the tasty beverage can give you a greater chance of not developing such diseases.
On a slightly less serious note, antioxidants also help your skin to stay healthy and looking young. Again, this is due to fighting free radicals that can damage your skin.

6. Weight Loss
Unsurprisingly, one of the most popular effects of Earl Grey tea is weight loss. This is primarily due to its citrus extract. It’s because of this that many people believe that citrus fruits in general can induce weight loss. It’s thought that calories are either broken down into food for your muscles or released through the natural metabolic process. So instead of cream or sugar, try putting lemon in your future cups of tea instead.

7. Prevention of Heart Disease
Good news everyone! Apparently, drinking three cups of Earl Grey tea daily may help lower your risk for heart disease. A study published in 2012 in Preventative Medicine found that people who drank three cups of black tea daily dramatically lowered their blood triglyceride levels and increased the ‘good cholesterol’ HDL after three months. The participants also had increased levels of antioxidants, which, as we now know, fight against free radicals that damage your cells.
Further research conducted by the University of Cantanzaro in Italy has also yielded positive results. A study of over two hundred patients with high levels of blood fats found that LDL (also know as ‘bad cholesterol) ‘bad’ cholesterol (LDL) was reduced by 39 per cent after a month of taking Earl Grey extract. It also reduced blood sugars by 22 per cent and raised ‘good’ cholesterol by 41 per cent. The reduction in blood sugar also shows that Earl Grey may be highly beneficial for those suffering with diabetes.

8. Stress Relief
Unlike the effects of coffee, Earl Grey tea relaxes and soothes the body almost instantly. It also has a stress relief effect whilst simultaneously providing the same clarity and focus as coffee. This makes it the perfect alternative for those who don’t want to get overly wired from coffee.

9. Cold Relief
The bergamot found within Earl Grey is said to improve the immune system as well as cure fevers. As such, it’s considered to be a natural cold remedy.

10. It Keeps You Hydrated
And no, not just because you take it with water.
Unlike the dehydrating properties of coffee, tea helps you stay hydrated and maintains the body’s fluid balance because of its high potassium content.

I suppose one could get the same benefits by adding bergamot essential oil or dried peels (if one could find them) to regular black tea.

I have bergamot EO I believe, maybe I’ll start adding a drop to tea that I drink.

“Do you have any knowledge of whether the cost of this drug will be way beyond the ability of the average person to afford ..??”

One report was $14,000/year for two injector pens per month. That not very affordable for most people.

Probably, I enjoy the simplicity of a bag.

Today is cool and rainy, so I will heat a cup or two from a single bag.

I decided a long time ago that buying loose tea from various places was tastier so I’ve been getting from here and there, often from Monterey Bay Spice company. Or free shipping from Amazon. I have drunk Earl Grey before, I like it. I will look into making my own if possible.

I just looked, they also have it in tea bags but more expensive:

No, it isn’t affordable for most people. Drug companies spend a lot to produce these medicines .. but then they want to recoup their expenses immediately. Not good.

Guess I’ll stick with Citrus Bergamot from The Vitamin Shoppe. I have a local store, or I can order it from them online, if I want to pay shipping.

But, every once in a while, they will send me a coupon for 50% off an order of two bottles. I usually take advantage of it by going to the local store and saving the shipping.

I get mine from Vitacost on line, it is a full range K2 complex. Comes in different quantities, you must treat it as a blood thinner if you have surgery. https://www.vitacost.com/vitacost-ultra-vitamin-k-with-advanced-k2-complex

http://www.lifeextension.com/magazine/2008/3/protecting-bone-and-arterial-health-with-vitamin-k2/page-01

I had 5 different cholesterol meds, all made me very sick. It’s like OP drugs I lump them in one category and avoid like the plague. WelChol gave me gout.

I noticed Big Pharma works on LDL and Tris, but not the important one HDL. The higher it is the better. Even slow Niacin does that to me, along with hot flashes. Try some B 6 about 50 mg to start you can always up it if you think it works to 100 mg. That you can get any where.

I get my prescription drugs from Blue Sky Drugs.

A Canadian based pharmacy, they can ship generic drugs from overseas into the U.S. at much cheaper prices.

I once ordered a drug from them that was manufactured in India and shipped from Switzerland.
