Prison Guards Who Threw Inmate in Hot Shower, Killing Him, Committed No Crime -State’s Attorney
Reason ^ | March 18, 2017 | Ed Krayewski

Darren Rainey spent two hours locked in a shower inmates at the Dade Correctional Institute said prison guards left set to scalding hot before dying of the injuries caused by the water. Rainey's skin was peeling off when he was removed from the shower. Inmates say he was screaming to be let out before he died, and that guards regularly used extremely hot and cold showers to punish mentally ill patients. Nearly five years later, in a report released Friday, the state's attorney has ruled that there was no criminal conduct by the guards.

In her ruling, Katherine Fernandez Rundle said, according to the Miami Herald, that John Fan Fan, a sergeant, and the officers involved in getting Rainey into the shower, Ronald Clarke, Cornelius Thompson, and Edwina Williams, didn't act with premeditation, malice, recklessness, ill-will, hatred or evil intent. The officers involved were eventually promoted after the incident.

>> The water temperature tested at 160 degrees <<

114 degrees is considered scalding, because it will bring on blisters.

Take a look at that link again.

These are not pre-trial felons. The Guberment pays this county to lock their ass up. The County Jail is much worse than a fed.

I think this murder.Maybe not first degree but I think it's murder.
And that state attorney needs to be in a different line of work.

Excerpt from the Miami Herald article:

David Weinstein, a former federal prosecutor who reviewed the report for the Herald, said it’s clear that the evidence did not meet the legal standard required to charge any of the officers with a crime.

“If you want to buy the government-conspiracy theory that the state attorney never charges corrections officers because they are part of the conspiracy, you are going to say they twisted the facts to support their theory,” he said.

“But if you look at it objectively, I don’t disagree with the results that were released. The only person that says that Rainey was burned and scalded was one inmate — and when you compare that to the rest of the evidence, it’s not consistent.”

Then what was the cause of death, David? He had a nice, comfortable shower and passed peacefully?

I’m a retired correctional office. This is totally unacceptable behavior and a vile criminal act.

...

Then you should read the actual report rather than relying on innuendo from those who hate cops (Reason), or those who have no use for the truth (Miami Herald).

I at times work with police and work with the mentally ill. The mentally ill population is either well cared for or tortured by the police.

“why did he poop in his cell... was he not allowed to go to the bathroom???”

There was most likely a toilet in his cell, but why? He was mentally ill.

What a miscarriage of justice.

Those guards will burn in hell for what they did.

And may they feel his pain in addition for all eternity.

And just what the heck is the water set for that hot for for showers.

There are safety devices that regulate water temperature to prevent scalding accidents.

"Do you even know what waterboarding is?"

I think the point is that murder of an American with scalding water is A-OK, while mere waterboarding of a terrorist (in order to save lives) is forbidden.

As long as law enforcement agents do the scalding and murdering. Should a peasant or serf do the scalding or murdering, said peasant or serf can look forward to spending a long time in prison.

I think the cause of death had something to do with his skin falling off. If that happened anywhere other than police custody, it would be suspicious. Apparently, people in jail get so stressed out, their skin spontaneously falls off. Nothing to see here.

Or until their first shower.

Years ago, I accidentally spilled a freshly-served cup of coffee on my bare leg. I’m assuming that was at least 160 degrees. Blisters formed immediately. I had second-degree burns, and got a shot of morphine for the pain. Under the blisters the flesh looked like raw steak.
