I will speculate that the 54 year old bad guy has a criminal record for violence, plus, he has an alcohol or drug problem, plus, he has been evaluated by mental health professionals in the past.
Has anyone checked his voter registration? Is he Democrat? Has he donated to Democrats? Did he even vote in 2016?
