President Trumps budget blueprint proposes eliminating 19 federal agencies.
Heres a run-down of the agencies and what they do, from supporting arts and public television to building infrastructure and studying international relations.

My question is why in the world would President Trump want to ditch this group that returns over TWO TIMES it's budget back to our government!

Makes no sense. Am I missing something?
Actually, OPIC insures payment for foreign business transactions against what is political risk. The actual money comes from banks as ordinary loans. The insurance is in effect collateral against foreign political risk.
Trump should not eliminate OPIC
Because it is not the role of government to do that.
You honestly believe that as long as the Federal Government can make a profit, that Government ought to perform those activities?
You are not a conservative.
Simple, it is not the US government’s job nor is it in the government’s charter (Constitution).
Trump should end it.
Insurance companies can perform this function all on their own.
Trump is governing as an idealogue and will make every attempt to bring ALL focus back on the USA.
I'm not so sure President Trump is THAT interested in funding the government.
Its not the job of govt to underwrite risk. The govt is not an insurance company.
I fully agree.
Would you like me to send you a copy of the Constitution?
It will be a miracle if even one of these agencies are eliminated. But it’s nice we are on offense.
1) The African Development Foundation, which funds African agriculture, infrastructure and community development projects with grants.
2) The Appalachian Regional Commission, which funds projects meant to bolster businesses, education, culture and economic development in Appalachia.
3) The Chemical Safety Board, which investigates accidents in the chemical industry and makes safety recommendations.
4) The Corporation for National and Community Service, which houses several public service organizations, including AmeriCorps.
5) The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which funds public television and radio stations including PBS and NPR.
6) The Delta Regional Authority, which funds businesses and infrastructure in the Mississippi River Delta region.
7) The Denali Commission, which supports utilities and infrastructure in Alaska.
8) The Institute of Museum and Library Services, which funds U.S. museums and libraries with grants.
9) The Inter-American Foundation, which provides financial aid to Latin America and the Caribbean.
10) The U.S. Trade and Development Agency, which provides U.S. goods and services for foreign development projects.
11) The Legal Services Corporation, which provides civil legal aid for low-income Americans.
12) The National Endowment for the Arts, which funds American artists and projects through grants.
13) The National Endowment for the Humanities, which funds American scholarship through grants.
14) The Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, which funds community development project throughout the U.S.
15) The Northern Border Regional Commission, which supports economic development in poor areas near the Canadian border.
16) The Overseas Private Investment Corporation, which helps provide private U.S. capital to foreign development projects.
17) The United States Institute of Peace, which aims to promote world peace through conflict resolution, training programs and scholarship.
18) The United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, which coordinates efforts to fight homelessness among nearly 20 federal agencies.
19) The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, a prominent think tank studying international affairs and foreign policy.
Wrong reason. I do not think that it being budget positive in regards to the federal government would be his motivation.
.... The Overseas Private Investment Corporation, which helps provide private U.S. capital to foreign development projects.
Here is a more plausible motivation. Trump seems to favor investment in American development.
We don’t need Crony Capitalism.
It’s a small start, but it’s a start. I like a lot of what those organizations do, but that’s not important. The questions are:
(1) Are they withing the proper scope of federal government operations, as delineated in the Constitution? [Mostly not]
(2) If they are within the enumerated powers, are they worth the investment for a country with $20T in debt? [In the few cases that are constitutional, no.]
I hope to see more and bigger cuts:
Department of Education - eliminated.
BATFE - National Firearms Act restrictions repealed, and BATFE’s few legitimate roles handed off to the FBI.
EPA cut 30% this year (as planned) and the same next year and the next.
Department of Commerce - Aggressively slashed. Business can pay for their own overseas marketing.
Department of Energy - Nuclear weapons work transferred to Defense, and the rest eliminated. Some of it is good, but industry can and will follow up on that research.
HUD - Eliminated, that’s a state role to the extent that government has a role at all.
I think if they think there is something valuable that any of these agencies accomplishes, and they can prove it, assign it to another department. Otherwise it goes away forever
Trump should eliminate any federal agency that doesn’t meet strict Constitutional requirements of either providing for the National Defense or facilitating commerce and free enterprise. Anything else is a pathway to socialism or worse.
It would be helpful if there was a report card on each of the agencies as to how effective they operate, how costly they are, etc.
Because it is not the role of government to do that.
I agree. We should eliminate three quarters of what this government does...most of all obamacare in ANY form which is what this OTIC group provides. Why eliminate that insurance plan and not healthcare insurance. At least be consistent.
That would include Obamacare lite as well.
Perhaps it is unconstitutional?
