Standing at Brookhaven National Lab, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today revealed that the just-released White House budget decimates the ?nations national labs, including BNL, a world-renowned lab responsible for innovation, research and nearly 3,000 LI jobs. Schumer sounded the alarm and expressed serious concerns over a proposal to cut $900 million from the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science, which funds national laboratories, like Brookhaven, and $2 billion from the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), the nuclear energy office, the energy reliability office, as well as the fossil energy research office.

"They do basic science - nuclear & particle physics."
Are they doing anything different from CERN?

I remember in the aftermath of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC), and the unabashed glee that the Dems had in proclaiming a "Peace Dividend" and slashing the military.
Payback's a female mutt...

...Though due to wasting money on climate nonsense the lab is headed toward obsolescence....
The Chuckster had his priorities. His was the science fiction of climate change. He chose poorly.

...to decimate means to reduce by exactly ten percent...Well, then, let's hope Trump decimates them four times in a row!
Extra points if you can calculate the obliteration after four consecutive decimations.

Thas’ what happens when Labs are dependent on the Gubmint. My Lab is sleeping quietly on the hearth rug.

Brookhaven’s projects could be moved to other facilities, and the grounds sold NY State. Anything on Long Island is worth far more in land than the buildings they support.
But if we did that, watch Chuckie switch his vote faster than a Clinton chasing a foreign donation.
I;d bet he would find a way to have some of his connected wise guys buy the whole thing for $10.

"Brookhaven Lab is one of
ten national laboratories overseen and primarily funded by the Office of Science of the U.S. Department of Energy. Brookhaven is operated and managed by Brookhaven Science Associates , which was founded by the Research Foundation for the State University of New York on behalf of Stony Brook University, and attelle, a nonprofit applied science and technology organization."
Looking at their awards, they have only had 4 in the last 10 years.
- 2008 Joanna Fowler National Medal of Science Award. She retired in 2014. Nuclear Medicine.
- 2009 Venkatraman Ramakrishnan He was only at Brookhaven from 93 to 95. He's been in the UK since 99.
- 2009 Esther Takeuchi The work she was awarded for on batteries was developed while working for GreatBatch, Inc. not Brookhaven.
- 2014 Mei Bai Nuclear physicist. Proton Beams.

... carbon sequestration ...
My idea to sequester of all that nasty, excess carbon is to use solar ovens to reduce to ash, all the man-made AGW grifters, and then dump that carbon down some played out mineshaft.

Didn’t NASA and the DOE fight over who’s going to pay for a new supply of PU-238(?) for nuclear-thermal batteries.

The State Science Institute. Dr. Ferris I presume.
