Luisa Fortin sometimes sits up at night, wondering what her clients are eating. She is the SNAP Outreach Coordinator for the Chattanooga Food Bank — but lately she has done less outreaching.
Her families, working immigrants in northwest Georgia, are spooked by the political climate, Fortin said. Increasingly, she’s being asked to explain how food stamps may impact immigration status, if not to outright cancel family food benefits.
Since mid-January, five of Fortin’s families have withdrawn from the SNAP program. One, the single mother of three citizen daughters, had fled to Georgia to escape an abusive husband. Another, two green-card holders with four young children, were thinking of taking on third jobs to compensate for the lost benefits. These families represent a small fraction of Fortin's caseload — she estimates she has signed 200 immigrant families up for SNAP over the past six months — but based on the

Damn right, I brought my wife in from another country, legally. She was told she would not be able to be on any public assistance for five years. How come someone who is in the country illegally can suck up tax dollars?
There are food banks run by private charities which I am quite sure feed any who show a need.

Rush pointed out that the reporter did not talk to a single illegal alien about this - the reporter talked to a person who hands out food stamps, who said 5 of her clients got off the program after they heard Trump say ICE would be going after illegals who were on food stamps.
Note: not a single illegal alien starved in the preparation of this comment.
Similar situation here. I'm on the hook to reimburse the government for any assistance provided for a minimum of five years and no upper limit. It depends upon how many quarters of work the immigrant or his spouse works.
At the time I signed, the government had just redesigned the form to make it enforceable in court, unlike the previous version which the courts would not enforce.
More sob stories from the leftist media. These immigrants are in no different position that criminals who are avoiding the law. They live in fear of being caught too (or at least they used to be). These sob stories are getting old. What I see in this particular story is that we are providing food and education to people who are here illegally, and from a system that is costing Americans a hell of a lot of money.
Makes you wonder. Do these illegals turn in their EBT back to the state and does the state automatically turn off the auto deposit of SNAP and TANF cash? Or is it like SS where folks die, no one notifies SS and recipient bank accounts get direct deposit of the benefits where some relative has access ? What about all these illegals supposedly self deporting, rushing to Canada or back to Mehico ? Do they notify the EBT folks to stop depositing funds ? A real audit of ebt card usage by locale would be an eye opener I bet.
I wonder if that’s why their use of EBTs keeps going up.
Maybe they just never turn them off, and others get new ones all the time.
