Senate Intel chair: 'No indications' Trump Tower was wiretapped (c) Greg Nash The head of the Senate Intelligence Committee has seen no evidence that the Obama administration "wiretapped" Trump Tower, according to a brief statement issued Thursday.

"Based on the information available to us, we see no indications that Trump Tower was the subject of surveillance by any element of the United States government either before or after Election Day 2016," Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) said, providing no other details.

Burr joins a steady drumbeat of Republicans who have explicitly contracted President Trump's explosive claims that he was surveilled during the campaign.

The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), also disavowed the claim on Wednesday, calling any literal interpretation of Trump's tweet "wrong."

"As I told you last week about the issue with the president talking about tapping Trump Tower, that evidence still remains the same, that we don't have any evidence that that took place," Nunes told reporters.

"In fact, I don't believe just in the last week of time, the people we've talked to, I don't think there was an actual tap of Trump Tower."

Obama wasn’t going to leave a paper trail.
Besides he had the British do the actual surveillance.

Always remember that the Cheap Labor Express Republicans in Congress want to be rid of Trump as much as the Democrats.

What kind of Alice in Wonderland sentence construct is that? Just say "I don't know".

Senate Intelligence? Those two words are mutually exclusive. You can’t do a thing like that.

Based on the information available to us, we see no indications that Trump Tower was the subject of surveillance by any element of the United States government either before or after Election Day 2016,” Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) said, providing no other details. Burr joins a steady drumbeat of Republicans who have explicitly contracted President Trump’s explosive claims that he was surveilled...

They are probably being truthful with that statement as the UK was asked one Obama’s flunkies, probably Lynch to monitor Trump Tower, aka Trumptowergate.

“It couldn’t possibly be true, because that is not how our system works,” Pelosi said during a Christian Science Monitor breakfast in Washington.

“We do not investigate, through a FISA court, Americans — here or abroad.”

Well, Nancy how about this:

MUSCULAR (surveillance program)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
MUSCULAR (DS-200B), located in the United Kingdom,[1] is the name of a surveillance programme jointly operated by Britain’s Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) that was revealed by documents which were released by Edward Snowden and interviews with knowledgeable officials.[2]

GCHQ is the primary operator of the program.[1]GCHQ and the National Security Agency have secretly broken into the main communications links that connect the data centers of Yahoo! and Google.[3]Substantive information about the program was made public at the end of October 2013.

Overview[edit]

The programme is jointly run by:
– Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) (United Kingdom)
– U.S. National Security Agency (NSA)

MUSCULAR is one of at least four other similar programs that rely on a trusted 2nd party, programs which together are known as WINDSTOP. In a 30-day period from December 2012 to January 2013, MUSCULAR was responsible for collecting 181 million records. It was however dwarfed by another WINDSTOP program known (insofar) only by its code DS-300 and codename INCENSER, which collected over 14 billion records in the same period.[4]

Operational details[edit]
According to the leaked document the NSA’s acquisitions directorate sends millions of records every day from internal Yahoo! and Google networks to data warehouses at the agency’s headquarters at Fort Meade, Maryland.
The programme operates via an access point known as DS-200B, which is outside the United States, and it relies on an unnamed telecommunications operator to provide secret access for the NSA and the GCHQ.[3]

According to the Washington Post, the MUSCULAR program collects more than twice as many data points (“selectors” in NSA jargon) compared to the better known PRISM.[2] Unlike PRISM, the MUSCULAR program requires no (FISA or other type of) warrants.

Because of the huge amount of data involved, MUSCULAR has presented a special challenge to NSA’s Special Source Operations. For example, when Yahoo! decided to migrate a large amount of mailboxes between its data centers, the NSA’s PINWALE database (their primary analytical database for the Internet) was quickly overwhelmed with the data coming from MUSCULAR.[5]

Closely related programmes are called INCENSER and TURMOIL. TURMOIL, belonging to the NSA, is a system for processing the data collected from MUSCULAR.[1]

According to a post-it style note from the presentation, the exploitation relied on the fact that (at the time at least) data was transmitted unencrypted inside Google’s private cloud, with “Google Front End Servers” stripping and respectively adding back SSL from/to external connections.

According to the Washington Post: “Two engineers with close ties to Google exploded in profanity when they saw the drawing.” After the information about MUSCULAR was published by the press, Google announced that it was working on deploying encrypted communication between its datacenters.[2]

Obama’s history is that he always has the goods on his opponents.

So its not believable to me that he didn’t have Trump’s people tapped.

There is this constant thing about “no evidence”. That there is no evidence does not mean it (surveillance) did not happen. That there is no evidence can mean that the evidence was not detected. People who surveil others generally take pains to leave no evidence behind. Maybe it worked.

If I peer into your window with binoculars to see what you are doing, tell me, what evidence would be left behind? If I used one of those laser detectors focused on a pane of glass to listen in on audio within your premises, what evidence would be left behind? If I bugged your phone line at a central office or other switching facility, what evidence would be left behind once I pulled my alligator clips off the terminals?

On the other hand, if there are transcripts of conversations, which there are (in the case of Flynn) then HOW THE HELL WERE THOSE PRODUCED?

This “no evidence” thing is not definitive, in my mind. It is a distraction. Trump tweeting his Saturday tweet was not testimony in a court of law. He was not operating under oath. In essence it’s just an opinion. It is no more nor less evidenced than the allegations that Trump staff were (1) colluding with the Russians to (2) throw the election.

You’ll notice there is also no evidence for “the Russians did it”.

Let’s broaden the terms....to include Trump and any of his associates...and that includes everyone from his children to anyone he’s associated since he decided to run.

I don't think there was an actual tap of Trump Tower

The power of politician's parsing of language. That may well be true - after all what is an "actual tap"? All that sentence says is that there wasn't somebody in the tower with alligator clips and a wire stripper. It doesn't rule out a "tap" across the street, or a signal interception at some point elsewhere. Or given the way a lot of politicians speak, down in the basement, because after all that's not in the tower.

And really, once the NT Times has a front page headline saying that a wiretap occurred, isn't the burden of proof now on the other side? Or is the NY Times just another source of fake news?

So then the NYT reporting was wrong the past 10 months. I’ll hold my breath waiting for the Times to issue a correction/clarification.
