Animals could start shrinking because of global warming, scientists have predicted, after discovering that mammals became dwarfed in a similar episode of climate change 50 million years ago.
Paleontologists discovered the fossil teeth belonging to an early ancestor of modern horses as well as a rabbit-sized hoofed mammal.
Dwarfing appears to be a common evolutionary response of some mammals during past global warming events, and the extent of dwarfing seems related to the magnitude of the event, said lead author Dr Abigail Ambrosia, of the University of New Hampshire.
Abrupt perturbations of the global carbon cycle during the early Eocene are associated with rapid global warming events, which are analogous in many ways to present greenhouse warming.

Misguided “science” takes a historic period and says it is analogous to today when that period in many ways is not analogous to everything in the conditions on earth today, including the availability of carbon to the food chain.
If we saw merely some giant movement of massively greater carbon atmospherically as part of massively less carbon available terrestrially, that would be one thing. But that is not today’s conditions.
I can sort of agree with this. Many larger mammals like moose and elk survive the winter with a big help from their large size. Their size gives them a better surface area to weight ratio, which is more “fuel efficient” when burning fat calories to stay warm. But then again, rabbits are active in the winter in the same areas moose and elk are, so who knows.
It already shrunk these “scientists’” brains.
How do they explain dinosaurs? It was much warmer when they lived. (I know, they’re not mammals.)
Many of the Dinosaurs are now believed to be warm blooded.
Thin cross sections of the fossil bone show similar microstructures to that of mammals.
If your Dad had bigger boobs he *COULD* be your mom?
Another theory is that they were more like birds, who are also warm blooded.
yes
Good. I’m sick to death of big animals.
Also apparently caused by the global petroleum and coal industries.
Or not. See Eohippus, the ancestor of the horse...
The upside is that miniature animals have much smaller carbon paw-prints.
Love when FReepers take over a premise and put their special touches on it. Hahahahahaha
NAW, Take that cardigan off a wooly mammoth an it looks like a cat with wet fur. Nothing but skin an bone!!
This thread definitely gets the most humorous of the day award, LMAO
Life just isn't safe anymore.
Well I’m impressed! I coulet understand a word of that jibberish!
Seriously buddy...I’m dyin over here!! The guy that could barely fit into his suit! Bawahaha!
