I can never get a joke on here first :)
Dead robbers are the worst kind. You have to shoot them in the head or they’ll eat you.

I thought it was overkill - shooting the robber after he was already dead.

Masked bank robber comes into bank.
Dies of massive stress-induced stroke.
While lying face-down on the floor, body cooling ...
... the brave Security Guard puts 17 rounds into his back, just for good measure.

Columbo just had an episode discussing that. It is not a crime to shoot someone who is dead. (Other than a possibly a charge of discharging a weapon)

With today’s ammo prices, I’m surprised he would shoot, legal or not. As much as I despise criminals, I’m not willing to waste even one shot on a dead bank robber.

...shooting dead masked bank robber. That struck me as odd, too. Not sure why you would shoot him if he was already dead. Perhaps reading the whole story will enlighten me.

"Is it legal to shoot someone who is dead?"It depends on zoning and the distance from a dwelling or a public road.

Is it legal to shoot someone who is dead? Tank gunners do it all the time, whether it's hit but not yet disabled enemy vehicles or dismounted troops who might be wounded or playing possum. You get 63 rounds of main gun ammo and 12,000 rounds for the co-axial machinegun, you might as well give the taxpayers their money's worth.
Target! Turret hit, load HEAT, hit him again, Target!
Dismounts on the ground; Gunner, coax. Hose 'em. Driver, move out, keep 'em honest.
Whenever in doubt, make the certainty shot. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting again.
