Trump administration disagrees with CBO report on health care

The Trump administration on Monday lashed out at the Congressional Budget Office’s report that estimated that about 24 million more Americans in a few years would be uninsured under the new legislation.

The bill, called the American Health Care Act, would be “less generous” with new tax credits for those receiving subsidies under the current law and the plan would likely increase average premiums in the nongroup market until 2020.

Tom Price, the Health and Human Services secretary, downplayed the report and said, “we disagree strenuously with the report that was put out. It’s just not believable is what we would suggest.”

The CBO report, compiled along with staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation, also determined that the Republicans’ American Health Care Act would save money for taxpayers. According to the study, it would reduce federal deficits by $337 billion from 2017 to 2026.

It is not the government's responsibility to provide health insurance to people.

Also from the article: “According to the CBO, the projected loss in insurance coverage is related mostly to a provision repealing penalties associated with the ACA’s requirement to buy insurance. ”

I saw Newt on Lou Dobb’s show and he said that CBO needs to be abolished.....it’s worthless.

Trump needs to have Price rewrite Obamacare using HHS rules. After all most of Obamacare states that the Secretary shall order this...or that.

If Congress won't repeal it outright, then the next best thing is to use Executive Orders and the HHS to whittle the law down to nothing.

The Uninsured they are talking about are the People that opt out of buying Health insurance because the Government “Mandate”, the Penalty that Chief Justice John Roberts turned into a Tax, is abolished.

Those people aren’t kicked off their Health Insurance, they CHOOSE not to purchase it.

CBO = Their calculations are carried out by lobbyists.

New program - project low cost (lie).

Cut program - project high cost and calamity.(lie)

Deplorables need to stay engaged is the fight.

Exactly, but the media and the grand standers who want attention are going to act like people are “losing” insurance. They don’t consider the numbers that never wanted it and will choose once again not to have it. Republicans are playing right into their hands once again

They have already said that is the plan, in addition to more legislation (national market) that can’t be done via reconciliation.

I think the crux of the dilemna in abolishing Obamacare is that it is now widely accepted as an entitlement such as Medicare and Social Security.
Figuring out how to rescind now established government benefits, especially expanded Medicaid, is seemingly an impossible mission.
President Trump in fact commented as much in citing that he hadn’t realized how complex dealing with this problem would be.

“I think the crux of the dilemna in abolishing Obamacare is that it is now widely accepted as an entitlement such as Medicare and Social Security.”

Uh, so what? Repeal the newest freebie program. And work up the older commie “care” programs.

“Figuring out how to rescind now established government benefits, especially expanded Medicaid, is seemingly an impossible mission.”

Repealing can be with with votes that the REPUBLICANS CONTROL. Republicans now control the WH, Senate, and the House. What more do you fking need to REPEAL?

“President Trump in fact commented as much in citing that he hadn’t realized how complex dealing with this problem would be.”

So what? REPEAL.

When hospitals can’t turn anyone away then unfortunately we are roped into it.

I saw a story about an illegal in LA who was in such bad shape that he spent a YEAR in the hospital getting his body rebuilt. Of course he paid nothing. Just think if that had been one of us.

It has been well documented that a significant number of Obama voters switched to vote for President Trump.
Personally, I actually voted for Obama in 2008 and then voted for Trump in November. I left the democratic party a year ago after 38 years so that I could support Trump in my state’s primary. Unfortunately, I live in Maryland and am basically disenfranchised.

I’m afraid I must disagree with you. Quite a few of those 20 million people are our people, particularly in the rust belt states. Moreover, the margins in PA, MI and WI were rather narrow and we cannot afford to jeopardize next year’s critical elections as losing either house of Congress would effectively neutralize Trump’s agenda. He would be stopped in his tracks, unable to pass any legislation and his re-election would be highly unlikely.
