Trump down to 47% approval in a poll that has him steadily at 51% to 55%.

Perhaps his base is turning on him for his RyanCare support?

Seems reasonable. He was holding above 50% through all the garbage until this issue became front and center. He needs to gravitate towards the conservatives and the Senate leaders (Paul and Cruz, not the ‘leadership). If he just signs on the fast track of the insurance industry bill Ryan is pushing, he may never recover.

If any of the base are going negative on Trump, it is TEMPORARY. Once this initial horrendous Ryan Care is dispatched back to the K Street lobbyists and is replaced with a more acceptable version, things will improve quickly.

Um, no. Trump is on board with RyanCare and is going to pimp it to the nation:

Trump will travel country to sell health care bill, White House says

Ryan states that this is the first of 3 steps. If Trump agrees I go along with it. Steps 2 & 3 will have a Trump follow through. I wouldn’t cross him if I was Ryan. There are other issues to move on to like tax cuts and SCOTUS.

Ahh ... how about doing steps 2 & 3 and then move on to discussing Phase 1? We’ve been fooled too many times with promises of “if you support passage of our THIS then LATER we’ll support passage of your THAT. What happens is that their THIS becomes law and our THAT remains an unfulfilled promise.

Let’s not be fooled again.

Perhaps six weeks or so of drumbeat criticism by the media and the dims is influencing the numbers more...It took awhile but the process worked on Nixon and GW Bush coincidentally...not!

During the campaign candidate Trump made statements that indicated to me that he didn’t have a good real world understanding of the real issues with healthcare in this country. Poor people, young people and many others do not “need” health insurance. Health insurance is to protect your assets does nothing to protect your health. No one in this country is denied medical treatment because of inability to pay. This is true even when you abuse the system to an unbelievable degree. We had one alcoholic in our jurisdiction who ran up more than $2 million dollars in medical bills. Is it that President Trump does not understand the actual purpose of Health Insurance or is he is pandering to the popular perception that somehow people without assets need health insurance?

I am furious at Trump. I was on the Trump Train way early. I had so much hope that he had had a Metanoia and saw the destruction being wrought by both parties, the corporatist and the Globalists.

Now watching him pick a cabinet composed of them, allowing Ryan to use him like a puppet and watching him waffle on immigration issues I hurt.

The Ryan plan supposedly allows for huge tax benefits for the rich, leaves the horrible for profit insurance companies to run over patients and drug companies to price gouge, I feel like a fool.

Medicine as a business is an abomination from Hell. Shame.

More never Trump push polling. Real Trump supporters are giving the President the benefit of the doubt.

Chaos and failure are what they want and are not Trump supporters. Every time negative comments are made public the purpose is to undermine this President.

I haven’t been following closely, but can someone tell me what’s so horrible about the House bill? Left-wing blogs like the Huffinglue Post are in full meltdown mode over it, so that tends to make me think it’d be a big improvement over what we have.

My understanding is that they can’t get a clean full repeal w/o 60 votes, and this can clear with 51. Then, standalone bills for interstate markets, tort reform, etc and the like will be offered as standalone bills and vulnerable D’s will be forced to get on record.

I realize that is probably not the complete answer - that there’s more they can repeal with 51 that they’re leaving on the table out of fear of political blowback. However, even if the GOP had the stomach for full repeal (which I doubt, let’s be honest), can someone explain what the strategy is to get that bill to Trump’s desk? Or, is the strategy to have it get blocked in the senate, let Obamacare continue to collapse the system until Democrats are desperate to help (hopefully after they get massacred in 2018)? Or, is the strategy to hope that McConnell finishes off the filibuster for good (yeah right)?

A good piece of his support is conservatives and we dislike Ryancare a lot. I think this poll is showing that. Trump saying he would help primaring conservative opponents of Ryan’s bill didn’t sit well. Trump’s full support of the bill is hurting him. He needs to listen to us and help fix the bill.

Trump has said he is open to changes. Your pushing pure filth. He has never said take it or leave it. If in the end though, after all the negotiations they still don’t support them then why should he support them in the primary? It’s not like anyone is really supporting him anyways. Moreover, the “Conservatives” have no arguments, they are just yelling and screaming. If you want to actually accomplish something (not sure they do) then there are better ways to do it. How about saying something like, “We don’t support non refundable tax credits, if this is a necessary thing then at the very least they should be standard tax credit and not refundable ones”. That is far more likely to come out with a positive result than, “RyanCare is Obamacare, burn him!” It’s all theater and no substance.

I think it would be prudent at this juncture to wait and see. Another thread here says that it is unlikely that the Ryan Americare Turd is going to even make it out of committee. Trump is just holding open his options.

My point is his full throated support of Ryancare has cost him some approval in the short term. I saw this morning a statement that he was going to work with Rand and the others to make the bill better so if they do that his numbers will recover and we have a bill we can all get behind. Ryan took advantage of the situation and put up a very flawed bill.

Simple. It doesn’t repeal Obamacare. Nothing else matters to a small slice of conservatives, even though most of us realize that a full repeal of Obamacare can’t make it through the Senate under the current filibuster rule. Hell, it might not even make it through the Senate without the filibuster rule. Several liberal GOP Senators would vote against a full repeal if it didn’t have a replacement attached.

This bill could be the start of a process that achieves what many conservatives want which is to get the government out of personal healthcare, but it doesn’t repeal Obamacare, so none of the rest of the details matter.

You can pick them out easily too. They call it RyanCare even though Tom Price wrote the bill and Trump is behind it. All Ryan is doing is shepherding it through the House as a Speaker should. But they think Ryan is the devil, hence RyanCare, even though it will inevitably be called TrumpCare once it passes in some form, as it will with Trump behind it.
