Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro called his U.S. counterpart "Comrade Trump" and told his people to expect "surprises" in the relationship between the two countries.

The socialist leader also hinted a deal is in the works to provide the hunger-stricken country with food imported from the U.S. "at a good price."

“We are bringing products imported by the revolutionary government from several sister nations: Trinidad and Tobago, Panama, Colombia, Mexico, Nicaragua ... and even the United States. Comrade Trump is offering me [basic food products] at a good price," Maduro said Sunday on his weekly TV show.

"There are going to be surprises," he added.

I have my doubts also, but if true it would not come as a complete surprise. The situation there is desperate...a lot of decent people, including even some now ex-Chavistas (some of whom now realize what a horrific mistake they made) have no food, medical care of basic public safety. I think this would be a stunning humanitarian move by Trump (and also a savvy political move in parallel with wall building).

You said they will eat flamingos. I asked how long can they go on eating flamingos before they run out of that as well.

Gotcha. Horrible situation. I just hope there will be some way to mandate the food gets to the folks. Not sitting on a runway rotting (a la USA for Africa, ect.) or ending up in Maduro’s storehouse.

Reg...exactly. There are fears that Santos may not leave office peacefully. He and his family have close ties to Obama and the Clintons

I once knew local people on a Caribbean island not far from Venezuela.

Flamingo was a go-to food in times of desperation. Said to taste horridly fishy. Their other poverty protein staple was the island’s iguanas, which I was told are an acquired taste, sort of like tough, spoiled pork, but preferable to flamingo.

“Good price=FREE”

When you don’t know you just make stuff up?

Why?

Trump will get his price, whatever that is and however he takes payment.

This is interesting. If true, it will be fascinating to see how it plays out.

Yup. The food will be sold on the black market by government thugs lining their pockets.
