Trump budget expected to seek historic contraction of federal workforce
WaPo ^ | Damian Paletta

President Trump’s budget proposal this week would shake the federal government to its core if enacted, culling back numerous programs and expediting a historic contraction of the federal workforce.

This would be the first time the government has executed cuts of this magnitude — and all at once — since the drawdown following World War II, economists and budget analysts said.

The spending budget Trump is set to release Thursday will offer the clearest snapshot of his vision for the size and role of government. Aides say that the president sees a new Washington emerging from the budget process, one that prioritizes the military and homeland security while slashing many other areas, including housing, foreign assistance, environmental programs, public broadcasting and research. Simply put, government would be smaller and less involved in regulating life in America, with private companies and states playing a much bigger role.

The cuts Trump plans to propose this week are also expected to lead to layoffs among federal workers, changes that would be felt sharply in the Washington area. According to an economic analysis by Mark Zandi, chief economist for Moody’s Analytics, the reductions outlined so far by Trump’s advisers would reduce employment in the region by 1.8 percent and personal income by 3.5 percent, and lower home prices by 1.9 percent.

“These are not the kind of cuts that you can accommodate by tightening the belt one notch, by shaving a little bit off of a program, or by downsizing a few staff here or there,” said Robert Reischauer, a former director of the Congressional Budget Office. “These are cuts that would require a wholesale triage of a vast array of federal activities.”

You have really been on target re the reality instead of a twisted perspective. Keep us on target!

That’s not 1.8% of the Federal work force. It’s 1.8% of the entire D.C. area employment base. That would be a huge number.

“I think many of the people who live in Northern Virginia moved there to get the hell out of DC.”

That trend was going on in the 1960’s, and it increased rapidly after the race riots after MLK was killed.

We moved ito a nice new condo division in western Fairfax, County on 1996 thanks to the GI bill for Viet Nam era vets.

5 years later, we sold it and made enough profit to enable us to buy good homes for even more appreciation, even in California.

Thanks for some real math instead of vague %’s.

“There are over 3 million people employed in the DC metro area and about 10% are federal government employees. If my math is correct that 1.8% impact in the region means the President is talking about RIF for 20% of the federal government workers in the DC region and that’s a good start!”

Good job:

Trump to order government-wide review of wasteful spending
The Washington Examiner ^ | March 13, 2017 | Gabby Morrongiello

President Trump will issue a new memorandum on Monday that requires every executive agency to conduct an internal review of how their funding is being abused and what changes they can pursue to operate more efficiently.
.
.
.
Some federal officials have said they fear the president’s budget will lead to massive layoffs at the State Department and Environmental Protection Agency, among other departments.

Draco (/ˈdreɪkoʊ/; Greek: Δράκων, Drakōn; fl. c. 7th century BC) was the first recorded legislator of Athens in Ancient Greece. He replaced the prevailing system of oral law and blood feud by a written code to be enforced only by a court. Doesn't sound so bad to me.

Federal government control of healthcare epitomizes the worst in Administrative State. Federal government control of healthcare sets up it's own economic structure within our government. It is ILLEGAL!

Here is the current structure under ObamaCARE

Here is the new defined structure under RinoCARE

I looked up our family home from Bethesda 1963 ,,, it sold 4 years ago for $1.9m and is now valued way over $2m ... too bad we moved away in 1967 and LOST money on it ,, selling then for $35k.

It's no different than CA. Most young people who were born in CA will never own their own homes there. And if they do, most will be in choking debt for the rest of their lives, just paying these bloated mortgages. Some of the lucky ones who borrowed their lives away, are paying thousands in property taxes every month....lol

That's why in CA, so many foreigners with big $$ have been buying most of the homes, while those born and raised there, are forced to leave the state or head to the deserts, if they ever plan to own a home of their own.

“The FEDERAL EMPLOEES that lose their “positions” will have absolutely zero problems quickly obtaining high paying jobs in the private sector. After all, THEIR OWN STUDIES say they are paid 34% lower than their private sector counterparts doing the same work.”

Right! And it’s a good thing we’re at “full employment” (4.7%) they all should have no problem whatsoever as private sector employees all fight for them...

Thanks, I was beginning to wonder if anyone read it correctly! It is amazing to follow some of these threads and see how many totally misconstrue what is being said. I thought we were supposed to understand things and it was only the liberals who always got it wrong.
