The U.S. military is sending an additional 2,500 ground combat troops to a staging base in Kuwait from which they could be called upon to back up coalition forces battling the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The deployment will include elements of the 82nd Airborne Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team, which is based at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. About 1,700 soldiers from the same unit are overseas now, spread between Iraq and Kuwait.

Not saying what their mission will be - getting them on the ground first. Can't hide that they are leaving from around Ft Bragg - thousands shipping out will be the talk of the town.

Obama lied constantly when he said there were no combat troops in Iraq. Now we are sending more.

I would be willing to bet the US military is going back to into Iraq a third time.

Lets go lose some more American Soldiers lives and then give the shithole back a third time.

Well, this isn’t what I was hoping for regarding foreign policy. More dollars (and potentially lives) being flushed down the toilet.

I think the troops going into Iraq will be there to kill ISIS, no more, no less.

"I think the troops going into Iraq will be there to kill ISIS, no more, no less."

If that were really true, let's officially declare war and then nuke ISIS until they surrender or preferably are all dead.

Well Trump promised to crush ISIS, and both political parties are doing everything they can to stop Trump from working with the Russians on this, so this is the end result ...

“If that were really true, (there only to fight isis)let’s officially declare war and then nuke ISIS until they surrender or preferably are all dead.”

I would have to agree with that. And if we do not, I’d like to hear the explanation why not; We the People deserve at least that much.

“I would be willing to bet the US military is going back to into Iraq a third time.”

Obama had about 6,000 US troops in Iraq when he left office - he is the one who went back in the third time, after his disastrous withdrawal (throwing those Iraqis who had sided with us to the wolves). Obama had troops back in Iraq for years already - just not accomplishing much visibly.

The Iraqi Army was reconstituted with US help after ISIS overran much of the country, and we have been providing air support to their operations to take back areas from ISIS (Tikrit, Fallujah, now Mosul).

Things really picked up against ISIS a year ago, when GEN Joe Votel took over command of Central Command (CENTCOM). Things have picked up even more since Trump came to office.

The ISIS Caliphate is being crushed - it will be only a guerilla movement or a terrorist organization next year - no more territory, no more oil revenue, no more taxes.

As a current member of the Army I'm well versed in whats happening not only in Iraq but other places where we are engaging the enemy.

We need to plan on being in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya, Syria till the end of time.

They don't understand that freedom comes with personal responsibility

Sadly many Americans are the same.

And you as well my Brother in Arms.

I remember watching Walter Cronkite reports of the Vietnam war on the 6 o'clock news with my dad. Joined the service at 17.

I blame my mom. If she had replaced my G.I. Joes with Barbie's I would be hanging curtains, for a living now instead of training Soldiers.

You cannot win in Iraq unless you are willing to kill 95% of the male population.

There is no winning. There is only continuous occupation, loss of blood and treasure, and hatred from both shia and sunni.

I don’t know if this report is true. I do know that we need to either go medieval, which isn’t going to happen, or get the hell out of nation building in the ME.

What is wrong with Western leaders? Is there no end to how many times they will smash themselves (us) in the face with a hammer?
