You should take a look at the American southern border during the winter to see all the US and Canadian snowbirds crossing to Mexico for cheaper dental work.

Good grief! Why in hell would you go across the border for dental care? Cheaper? Oh my word. It is absolutely filthy down there. No freaking way....yuk. Wonder how many find out later to have hepatitis, TB, HIV?

I guess that would mean anyone who needs am "Obamacare option" for insurance would go on Medicaid?

Here's what I don't get about this RyanCare bill ... and you have to keep in mind that I'm not being overly critical of the GOP efforts because I understand the political challenge here:

Why wouldn't the GOP propose a bill that would at least give insurers the option of offering plans that exclude pre-existing conditions and/or contain lifetime (or annual) coverage limits? Those two steps right there would probably do more to reduce premiums than anything else that has been proposed by anybody. Their refusal to give people the option of accepting limits on coverage is ridiculous, and will end up undermining them because nothing in this bill is going to reduce premiums at all.

I think a lot of them are American dentists who set up shop across the border to take advantage of lower costs and get away from our legal system.

Don’t think there’s any proof pre-ex conditions are the bulk of premium increases.

More likely the bulk is the age of the population.

I agree with your second point, but your first point doesn't take one thing into account: If an insurer must cover pre-existing conditions, there is not enough of an incentive for someone who is younger/healthier to be insured at all.

It's not the pre-existing conditions alone that are the problem; it's the fact that insurers have a disproportionate number of customers who actually NEED the coverage -- due to age AND health issues. If an insurance carrier offered a plan that didn't cover pre-existing conditions and cost a lot less than a traditional plan, then younger people would be more likely to sign up for them.

There may be a few, but it is primarily Mexican doctors/dentist. There is no money to be made down on the border, unless of coarse, you’re crooked.
