Top vote-counter on ObamaCare bill: 'We're gonna get this done'
The Hill ^ | 3-10-17 | Scott Wong and Bob Cusack

The top vote-counter in the House says there is no doubt that the Republican ObamaCare repeal and replace bill will pass. "We're gonna get this done," House Majority Whip Steve Scalise said with a smile on Thursday. Scalise had a good reason to be in a good mood, despite being awake for 33 straight hours, fueled by adrenaline and several cups of chicory coffee from New Orleans. He was elated the GOP healthcare bill just cleared his Energy and Commerce Committee after what may be the longest legislative markup in history. The gregarious 51-year-old Louisiana Republican believes Thursday’s marathon hearing and party-line vote in his committee had given the American Health Care Act enormous momentum as it heads into the next round of legislative hurdles.

\Trump remains silent on Ryancare so far.

Actually he has said plenty—and some of it was on Friday...He said it is good and he will support primarying any Republican who does not vote for it.

All you Trump bashers need to understand one simple thing....Trump is 100 percent America first! After all we have witnessed there can be no doubt of this. If he endorses it, then good with it too!!!!!

“All YOU Trump bashers need to understand one simple thing” Seriously?!?! Well, I am not an “All YOU Trump basher.”

FRiend, I and others here are simply asking questions to become educated and making our views known...Isn’t that allowed on Free Republic and still allowed in the USA???

Just because intelligent people have opinions and questions about this bill and frankly don’t trust Ryan as far as we can throw him does not make any of us Trump bashers.

No one is saying President Trump is not 100 percent America first; however, just because he endorses Ryancare does not make it good. President Trump needs to hear from those of us who were with him from the beginning and at the rallies...If we have questions, ideas or reservations, we are not helping him him or ourselves by simply accepting what is put forth by Uniparty Ryan. President Trump was elected because he listened to the people who have had no voice. Are we to give up our voices now? I think not.

With all due respect, I think you need to understand one simple thing....It is never wise to accept everything anyone says without asking questions and thinking for yourself.

Nonsense.

ObamaCare 2.0 Mandate is still there.

3rd Party pay raises prices and dooms any plan.

ObamaCare 2.0 transfers people hard wealth and income to foreign powers and big business.

That is not America first. Dream on. That is socialism.

I just have a hard time trusting Paul Ryan. I remember the primaries all too well. He may be too ambitious and too eager to please the bad guys up there. Surely do hope Trump will do his own thinking on this. Obamacare must be repealed and replaced..Forget the 2018 elections. The issue is doing what is best for this nation and the people who voted for Trump will stop supporting him if he does not keep that promise.

He’s had people pushing it as hard as possible.

Unfortunately, we seem to be heading toward a Ryan-Trump copresidency.

It turns my stomach.

His base is both of those.

And this bill is a massive mistake on Trump’s part.

This first attempt is a horrible Obamacare 2.0.

Goodbye, Trump presidency if the freedom caucus and/or a handful of GOP senators don’t save him from himself on this.

It’s the same. They just divided the 2015 bill into 3 parts that will be approved in phases so that phase one can be passed through reconciliation.

Here is the text of the 2015 bill. It's a straight repeal of taxes, subsidies, Medicaid expansion, and individual mandates. It bears no resemblance to the train wreck the GOP is trying to force through.

Are you really that unaware of how this perpetuates and enshrines Obamacare?

You are joking right? Insurance has gone up on average 100% since Obamacare both with the double digits yearly rises and the fact that what you are now paying for doesn’t have the same coverage most insured Americans had, with its sky high deductables & cost sharing.

Trump has given some “lip service praises” to those working on it but I get the sense he wants Cruz/Lee/Paul to prevail and that it will be highly modified before it ever reaches his desk for signature/veto. He needs the Congress for much of his agenda and doesn’t want to be too abrasive before actually necessary.

Instead of strong-arming conservatives and threatening to primary them, shouldn’t the GOP leadership be Incorporating conservative ideas while picking off vulnerable democrats?

I tried to find some information on Rep. Steve Scalise and was directed to the Oxford Dictionary where I found his picture right beside the entry for the word “scumbag”. Then I noticed an alternate synonym “worthless human debris”. And beside that a historical fact that the old joke, “What's the difference between _______ ________ and a bucket of sh¡t€” was created just for him. I need to look at the old Oxford more often.

tell us why its so bad”

For starters it has higher penalties for not buying coverage and the money collected for those fees given to the insurance companies and pharmasutical companies.

Thank you. I feel like I am the only person suffering from this. Is everyone else on here on other forms of insurance or medicare? Because this crap is insane. As it stands now, if I think I am dying, I’ll just have to let it run its course rather than bankrupt my family with some crapshoot treatment that’s just as likely to only kill me faster as it is cure me.

riri, I actually have very good insurance through my place of employment, however MANY of my friends and family are self employed and dealing with this HORRIBLE legislation!! One friend family of 4 premiums 2100.00 a month, deductibles 8500.00 A YEAR!! Her small son broke his leg ALL out of pocket because it did NOT meet deductable cost!! The REAL KICKER was that 3 months later the deductable process started all over again due to the year on her premium ending!!! So the follow up care started the deductable from the beginning!!!
