You’d know better than I would. I’m not a Californian although I did live in Orange County for a year or so back in the ‘80s. I used to listen to Bob talk on C-Span and liked what he had to say. He struck me as a pretty intelligent guy and I always liked the way he could make his speech go right to the second his time expired. Too bad things turned out as they did.

Is Orange County still mostly conservative? I liked to read the Register every day - probably the best (and only) decent paper on the West Coast.

Thanks for your reply. I liked B-1 Bob a lot, but in the end, he reminded me of my beloved Willie Mays, should have called it a career while he still had some gas left, in the tank. Instead, he stretched it out, to a less than dignified exit.

OC is not nearly as right leaning as it was, back in the day. A schism developed, South OC is much as you remember it, after you get a couple of miles away from the 5 Freeway, North OC has pockets of conservatism, but Anaheim, Garden Grove, and Santa Ana is overwhelming the population base with Dem voters. Adding to the influx of illegals, the once solid bloc of Vietnamese Republicans are turning gray, and more interested in government benefits, than the rabid anti Communism of olden times.

Finally, in the good news/bad news report: my town, since incorporation, in the year 2000 has not had a Democrat on the municipal ballot, in its existence, as a city. Our once admired Register is no longer the same. The Hoiles family lost control of it, Freedom Communications went bankrupt, since been sold twice. The new owners seem intent on making it the local version of USA Today, and the libertarian firebrand of yesteryear is just a fond memory. I came to OC in 1981 as a typical Northeasterner (from CT), and the combination of The Register’s editorial page, and our Great Leader (President Reagan) turned me into the Right Wing Caveman, I proudly call myself, today ;)

Freegards !
