Nearly two months into the Trump administration, the IRS commissioner House Republicans once threatened with impeachment remains on the job.
John Koskinen's continued tenure may be surprising, considering how aggressively Republicans went after him under the Obama administration. But despite a sustained push by congressional Republicans to oust the IRS chief before his five-year term expires this November, President Trump so far has made no move to do so.
A White House official, asked about the commissioner's future, also told Fox News on Wednesday they had no personnel announcements at this time.
House Republicans aren't giving up their quest to show Koskinen the door.
President Trump should fire Commissioner Koskinen and replace him with someone that will bring integrity and competence to the IRS, House Judiciary Committee Chariman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., told Fox News on Tuesday.
Just days after Trump took office, Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker, R- N.C., along with 53 other House Republicans, also wrote a letter asking the new president to remove Koskinen.
The consideration of the impeachment of IRS Commissioner John Koskinen in the House in late 2016 was a clear indication that Congress and the American people have no confidence in Commissioner Koskinen or his ability to discharge his duties, Walker wrote, nudging the president by citing statutory language giving him authority to strip Koskinen of his title. Doing so, he claimed, would restore the credibility of the federal tax authority.
We have not received a response to our letter, an aide at the Republican Study Committee told Fox News. We understand, however, the administration remains busy putting its team in place, and we look forward to its response.
A White House spokesperson told Fox News they received the January letter and "are currently reviewing it."

And let him draw unemployment? No make him resign.
You don’t need a tinfoil hat to wonder if this has anything to do with Trump’s tax returns.
The Trump admin in general needs to step up its nomination of second and third tier political appointees across all its departments and agencies — and not have so many of those they do nominate be pals of the GOPe/Priebus.
Somehow Trump apparently still doesn’t understand this.
One or two things at a time, please. He’ll get around to it, after the audit is finished.
No. Appeasing left wing criminals never did anyone any good. Ever.
Koskinen reminds of those arrogant Nazi’s who stood trial at Nurenenberg. I picture him wearing a black SS uniform as he says “I vas just following orders.”
If you are going to put the full court press on someone better hes working for you.
Trumps playing 3D chess -theyre playing checkers.
Lurking
If Trump fires him he loses leverage.
The IRS head is obligated to cooperate under oath with the House Oversight Committee while he is still in the employment of the US Government as part of his job duties.
Once he is a private citizen no longer employed by the IRS his obligations are reduced.
The REAL question is, “Why has the House Oversight Committee not yet called this guy in to grill him and force disclosure of the 7000 “found” documents the IRS hid under Obama while he is still a government employee?”
He can't hide behind Obama anymore.
Hopefully, building a solid criminal case against this guy - hopefully.
That POS should have been the FIRST to go
FIRE his azz
This is why I don’t trust anyone in campaign mode and even after. Things that are so obvious to me, and everyday people, either doesn’t matter to them or they just don’t seem to get it.
If I was elected President I’d go all in....balls out....and let them talk their crap. They’re going to do it anyway....are doing it. Might as well make things right for the people who elected you.
Obama did it. He got his agenda through anyway he could no didn’t care what anyone said. He’d just call them liars and move to the next item.
Seems no one has the guts to do that but Democrats.
FIXED!
And Comey and any number of holdovers
I have been wondering about this too. I hope he is earning his salary by revealing where all the bodies are buried. Whatever the reason though, President Trump has earned my trust.

Well why didn't the House and Senate (both Republican controlled) follow through with impeachment at the time?
I know, I know, we are talking about the Republican towers of jelly that populate that Congress. No balls to do it at that time, so now they ask Trump to do it.
What a pathetic lot.
President Trump has shown than he normally has a reason for the actions he takes. While I cannot for the life of me figure why he would keep the lying, ethically challenged, smarmy Koskinen any longer than he has to I trust that President Trump knows what he is doing.
Trump thinks the smirking criminal in charge of the IRS is going to heed his EO to not follow through on the fine for failure to engage bozo care?
Lincoln cleaned out his swamp. So should the Donald.
