I grew up reading books written in the 1900-1960 time frame about the wildlife of Kenya. By the 60s, it was obvious that an incredibly beautiful country was going to be overcome by too much population with too little self-control. I dreamed of seeing it someday but it was almost too late by the time of my birth in the late 50s.
But then, I don’t recognize much of my own country anymore.
During the anarchy that accompanied & followed Idi Amin's regime many of the Ugandan game parks were cleaned out. They may have recovered by now, but in 1986 we took our kids for a two day visit to Kidepo National Park in Northern Uganda. Amazingly, the Park Staff were still there. If you brought your food they would prepare great meals, make the beds, etc.
Unfortunately, very little game was left.
