One of her education “innovations” in Michigan was the “Michigan Promise”, which gave college money to students who graduated high school with high scores on an achievement test, and then continued through college with high enough grades to meet the standards. The money came from the tobacco settlement.

Guess what happened to the “Promise”? Even though the money was supposedly already funded by the settlement, it ran short and my son, who had qualified for the award, lost his in his final years of college because the state no longer had the money to fund its “Promise” to him.
