Donald Trump's White House Rejects Reports That James Comey Believes Wiretapping Claims Are False
Newsweek ^ | Josh Lowe

Donald Trump’s White House has rejected reports that F.B.I Director James Comey disagrees with Trump’s wiretapping claims against Barack Obama.

The New York Times reported at the weekend that Comey had instructed the Department of Justice (DoJ) to publicly disavow the president’s unevidenced accusation that his predecessor had ordered intelligence services to spy on him during the presidential campaign. The DoJ has not yet made any public comment on the wiretapping claims.

The White House press secretary Sean Spicer told the paper he did not accept the report that Comey had intervened to prompt a response.

“I have not seen anything, aside from another report based on anonymous sources, that that actually happened,” Spicer said. “I’m not aware that that occurred. I don’t think that we’re aware that that occurred.”

The comments highlight the lack of contact on this issue between Trump and his law enforcement or intelligence agencies.

What evidence he does have for the claims appears to come from a right-wing talk show report that was picked up by the pro-Trump news site Breitbart, rather than any privileged information.

Spicer said that Trump still had confidence in the FBI director. “There’s nothing that I have been told by him that would leave me to believe that anything is different than it was prior,” he said.

I'm inclined to think that this is the truth, rather than any tale floated by the NY Slimes. If Comey disagreed or thought that the tapping claims were false, why wouldn't HE hold a press conference and say so, rather than trying to get the DOJ to discredit the claim? Comey certainly hasn't been camera shy in the past.

Precisely. I have been saying that since the story came out in the NYT. Everyone has been quoting the NYT story and IMHO that is very, very risky.

Remember: Obama ordered surveillance of Fox News’s James Rosen and his parents! — with no legal authority that I know of. He bugged Sharyl Atkisson (then of CBS.) He secretly subpoenaed the phone records of several Associated Press reporters. He illegally used the IRS to punish political opponents. He illegally used an executive order to give amnesty to “Dreamers” — a power even he admitted he didn’t have. He and Eric Holder intervened ion the ongoing case against the New Black panthers to end the prosecution — after the Bush Administration had essentially gotten them convicted. (And they ran guns to the Mexican gun cartels.) So why wouldn’t he wiretap Trump, with or without a warrant? But that’s not even the primary issue. I don’t care if it’s President Bush, President Obama, President Trump, the next president, or the one after that. NO President should have such powers. We need to repeal the Patriot Act and the FISA act, which are the sources of this power. That is not to minimize what Obama apparently did. But we need to pull this up by the roots rather than focusing completely on just one individual president.

It's hilarious to me that the Fake News Meida thinks they can just instantaneously pivot to the notion that there hasn't been any surveillance, wiretaps, intelligence gathering, etc., when they've been relying of precisely such things for the last several months.

They just expect the People to believe that the information that has been leaked just magically fell out of the sky, I suppose. And because the target might not have been directly specified as being the President, but rather his associates and campaign surrogates, the Media additionally expect that to somehow excuse it all, and make the President "wrong" somehow.

What a bunch of clowns, and the entire country is seeing it more and more clearly.

In retrospect, President Trump's tweet was brilliant, and the details around which it was made will now come out.

What will emerge is that 0bama, Hillary and the Dems, under whatever sleazy auspices they could do it, were actively spying on the Trump campaign, abusing the powers of government to do so, and likely broke several laws along the way.

Regardless of whether it was "legal" or not, we can reasonably infer that they got jack sh!t for their scummy efforts, and all they were left with was an innuendo campaign which was a brazen attempt to create smoke where there was none.

And then President Trump, with Patriots like Mark Levin having his back (for once), blew up the entire narrative of the Enemy, who is now back on its heels playing defense.

Just brilliant on the President's part, and a testament to the fact that the Lamestrem Media have been engaging in nothing but fake news (democrat propaganda) for months.

The Democrats and Media (but I repeat myself) look like the utter fools that they are.

Oh, they'll keep trying. It's all they have. But they are in their death throes, and increasingly we're going to start seeing some of the rats who have a modicum of integrity (albeit that of a rat) begin fleeing this sinking ship.

I won't be surprised if Senator Manchin and some of his ilk switch to the GOP, both in the federal legislatures as well as the state.

Oh well, the Democrats still have California and NYC for the moment.

Over the next several months, we're going to watch the vise grow tighter and tighter as the truth of the Democrats' despicable behavior is slowly revealed.

He cant..he cant even ASK...if it true or false that Comey ask for that...

Remember what happen when Comey called Spicer to tell the White house another NYT story on what the FBI was saying was madeup and false?

..and Spicer ask Comey if Comey would just tell the press that?...

The press when after Spicer and the Whitehouse for “pressuring” the FBI

If they ask Comey it would be spun as the White House is interfering with FBI

I believe there’s back channels communication but it has to be off the Record otherwise the Press will just start screaming collusion.. which lets the Press make up all sorts of crap for the official record... so if the White House is saying we think, Comey didn’t say that.. I think they know Comey didn’t say that

FBI # 2 A. McCabe seems just as bad or much worse as it is reported he is the one slow walking the investigation into the Clintons and has done similar work for Clintons for years.

In October, WaPo said Harry Reid claimed collusion between Russkies and Trump, and he said “Comey himself has left him with this impression.”

Now, remember, as I stated here today, http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3532327/posts
I think Comey a) did NOT exactly say this (no quote can be produced) and b) is running interference for Trump.

If Comey did say that, I think he was telling Lynch:

“Hey fatso, you put me in the box, here’s one for you”!

While I dont’t trust anyone in the fbi, CIA, NSA, etc. I do know this one fact-when Comey came out in late October and said he would take another look at the whole Hillary email investigation that he became Public Enemy #2 (right after Trump) in the liberal media circles! So, I view everything thru a lense of who stands to gain if he is ousted?

Should have used the sarc tag. Of course they asked Comey if actually said this. Why haven’t they told us what Comey said?

Sounds like NYT wants to make a rift between FBI and Trump or even get Trump to fire Comey. I admit Comey appears very flaky but there may be much more here than meets the eye. It is NYT after all.
______________

Recall Comey held 2 closed door committee hearings within a week of so of each other and not one word has leaked.

After the 2nd one, Adam Schiff wailed on about the lack of specifics, which I take to mean the lack of a heads up to any perps or perp-connected critters in attendance, while Gowdy smiled and said it was the most specific, forthcoming briefing he ever heard. Grinning like a Cheshire cat, Gowdy added not to believe anything published by NYT/WaPo. I know there is a strong hate-Gowdy contingent, but I enjoy his grillings of the zer0 administration goons and I believe him in this instance.

Comey is not the enemy and I am not convinced Gowdy or even Chaffetz (who was also pro-Trump admin when I saw clips of him from FNC)are enemies, either.

I’m for allowing this to play out Trump’s way. He has multiple reasons to insist on House committee investigations.

That wasn’t Comey. That was (supposedly)Andrew McCabe, #2 at the FBI and a sleazy weasel slow-walking all he can in the ongoing investigations. He is connected (CIA & Hillary) far beyond Comey (see George Webb’s videos)and if the progs manage to take out Comey, McCabe will rise to Director. Now, why would the perps want that?

I have yet to see confirmation of the McCabe/Spicer interaction. If there is one, I’d like a link. If true, McCabe is setting up Spicer and working against the administration, which is no surprise. If not true, it is another setup attempt by the media and McCabe is complicit. Lose-lose.

I'm guessing any direct communication between the WH and the FBI raises questions about independence.

Here's a snippet that will shed some light on this matter.

But Mr. Sessions said the fact contact occurred between law enforcement agencies and the White House was not inherently improper.

“The FBI and Department of Justice have to remain independent and they will do so,” Mr. Sessions said Monday during a brief question and answer session with reporters at the Justice Department. “But every contact is not improper.”

White House officials said last week that FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe told White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus on Feb. 15 after a meeting on an unrelated matter that a New York Times story on alleged contact between Trump campaign officials and Russia last year was not accurate. White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Mr. Priebus asked Mr. McCabe to tell the media about it, but both he and FBI Director James B. Comey declined.

The contact between the FBI and the White House has been characterized as unusual by former administration officials, including former CIA director John O. Brennan. Meanwhile Democrats have pressed for an independent investigation of ties between Russia and Trump campaign officials during the presidential campaign, saying Mr. Priebus’ conversation with a top FBI official is a hindrance to any impartial investigation.

Thanks. Priebus, then, not Spicer. Spicer was the public messenger.

So, it took place and neither Comey nor McCabe will verify to the press.

Count me as a war-weary citizen very exhausted from deliberate destruction of trust. However, to any pro-opposition lurkers (or FReepers) reading this: my trust in Trump is not altered. You have managed to make me hate _you_, the Deep State operatives trying to make my country ungovernable because power has passed from you to the formerly-oppressed people who voted against you and your agenda. You can all BTFO.
