Alexandria schools to close Wednesday during ‘Day Without a Woman’

WASHINGTON — Alexandria City Public Schools will be closed Wednesday after more than 300 staff members requested the day off.

The “unusually high number” of call-outs may be connected with the “Day Without a Woman” nationwide protest and social media campaign, school superintendent Alvin Crawley said in a statement.

Wednesday also marks International Women’s Day.

March 8 will be a teacher workday, Crawley said. March 10 was already a regularly scheduled workday.

“This is not a decision that was made lightly,” Crawley said, adding it was “based solely on our ability to provide sufficient staff to cover all our classrooms.”

If you don't fire them, they will rinse and repeat. The parents required to take an unscheduled day off work as a result of this stupidity will happily fire them for the spineless administrators.

Students will not have to make up the day, in part because the lack of severe winter weather means schools still have plenty of snow days to use.

...

Another benefit of global warming.

we need a day with out conservatives....can you imagine what would happen. 3/4 the military gone. most first responders gone . law enforcement missing in action. ... I tend to believe that most of the united states would stop functioning and those liberals would find that there socialist plans would not work because those willing to do the heavy lifting of society that liberalism depends upon and make fun of would not be there...

It’s a start.

Now, get the kids home with their families full-time like God intended!

The “teachers” don’t think about details like that. The protest made them feel good, screw the consequences for everyone else.

Why stop at a day? Let’s have a few years without left-wing women, and the men or gender-confused who think the same!

Parents, if your kids don’t have anything planned that day, and if you are staying home, here’s a suggestion, HOMESCHOOL THEM. You will find out that you can do a better job than the local indoctrination centers.

American women are going to be amazed at how the world works without them anyway; I’m sure the Third World women we’ve imported to replace them will be showing up for work.

I know I'm getting old, but back in the day, the mass movement of women into the labor force was supposed to be a great victory, the fundamental economic step in the emancipation of women.

Now the women's movement wants to dramatize that women are unreliable employees. Go figure.

i always hate to hear “ BUT I will have to take a day off of work/make other arrangements” bs. They are your kids. They should be your 1st priority.
and yeah, if you can’t afford them without working full time (either parent) don’t have them. They shouldn’t have to fit into your work schedule. U work around THEIRS.
I know, 2 many toys to buy. and 2 many single parents.

“If they’re not taking a prearranged vacation day, fire them.”

Many companies are handling this way:

- If you scheduled a vacation day in accordance with proper procedure, enjoy your day off.
- If you take a sick day, provide a doctor’s note

Failure to meet either of the above criteria makes it an unexcused absence, and it will go in your file.

Please don't misunderstand me. God, country, and family all come before work. The inconvenience isn't the children. The inconvenience is that a few (idiotic) teachers for their own (selfish) reasons choose to abandon the children's needs on short notice. The "short notice" is the crux of the issue. When enough of them do this to shut down an entire school, it amounts to a "strike", and puts parents everywhere in a lurch scrambling to work around them. I'd fire them without reservation. They don't need to come back where they'll have opportunity to do that to the children and parents a second time. We'll deal with inconvenience they leave us with, but those affected ought to retaliate immediately to discourage repeat offenses in the future.
