The Philippine defense chief and two other Cabinet members on Saturday toured a U.S. aircraft carrier patrolling the disputed South China Sea on the invitation of the navy, U.S. Embassy officials said.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez and Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II visited the USS Carl Vinson along with three Philippine security officials, said U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Molly Koscina.

The visit shows continuing top-level engagements between Philippine officials and the U.S. military despite Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s threat to scale back engagements with American forces while reaching out to China and Russia.

Duerte cut back the relationship, at least publicly, because he perceived the President of the United States, Sultan Hussein, was likely to throw the Phillipines to the Chinese wolves and Duerte figured that it was time to make nice to the canines.

Trump is being quietly friendly and it will pay off for the Philippines.

Duterte loves his people and his country is is as fanatical as Trump is about America.

A lot of good is developing in the world that Satan is not allowing to be broadcast.

Tangentially related: I know some elderly Filipina expatriate ladies here, all of whom like, nay, are even proud that Duterte is cleaning out the druggers and druggies but they are deferring visits to the homeland for a while. The perceived problem is that too many people are using the go ahead to kill dealers to settle other sorts of scores and sometimes one doesn’t know that someone has a grudge.

Trump is doing more than showing friendship. He has a carrier in China's claimed backyard. Hussein with his "pivot to Asia" pulled back the Navy to avoid getting in China's way. That surely makes a big impression on Duterte. This guy is for real!

The Monkeys Have No Tails in Zamboanga

Oh, the monkeys have no tails in Zamboanga,
Oh, the monkeys have no tails in Zamboanga,
Oh, the monkeys have no tails,
They were bitten off by whales,
Oh, the monkeys have no tails in Zamboanga.

Chorus:
Oh, we won’t go back to Subic anymore,
Oh, we won’t go back to Subic anymore,
Oh, we won’t go back to Subic
Where they mix our wine with tubig*,
Oh, we won’t go back to Subic anymore.

Few understand the importance of China to the Vietnam war.

By opening up China, Nixon/Kissinger flanked the Russians in Indo China and effectively replaced them with Chinese hegemony.
