WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, asked the Justice Department this weekend to publicly reject President Trump’s assertion that President Barack Obama ordered the tapping of Mr. Trump’s phones, senior American officials said on Sunday. Mr. Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is false and must be corrected, they said, but the department has not released any such statement.
Mr. Comey made the request on Saturday after Mr. Trump leveled his allegation on Twitter. Mr. Comey has been working to get the Justice Department to knock down Mr. Trump’s claim because there is no evidence to support it and it insinuates that the F.B.I. broke the law, the officials said.
A spokesman for the F.B.I. declined to comment. Sarah Isgur Flores, the spokeswoman for the Justice Department, also declined to comment.

Is Comey saying that the FISA court didn’t issue a surveillance order on Trump Tower? And if he isn’t, and the court did issue the order, DJT is correct, right? Is it all this simple?

What’s important about that NYT story is that it gets Trump off the hook if any of the story turns out to be wrong. Nobody would fault him for saying something that had already been printed in the Times.

Trump will watch this play out and see who sides with Obama. Smoking them out. So unnerving to go through this again. I guess its the only way to shine a light on it and stamp it out. More prayers for Trump to guide and guard his path.

Doesn’t negate the president’s claim Trump Tower was bugged. Just who he claims ordered it. If the investigation leads back to Obama, Comey MUST be fired.
Drudge is honestly captioning the NYT article. If these “senior American officials” are legitimate, then Drudge is merely paraphrasing/highlighting the gist of the article. But it’s more likely that Drudge is creating a situation in which the NYT’s sources will once again be discredited. That would be a service to us all.
